The Torpedo Factory is, to me, three separate monuments. The first, and maybe not the most important to the reader, is that it forms the centerpiece of my weekend bike ride.
Second, it has served as the center of real, touchable art in the area for over 30 years. Here you meet the artists, see their work in progress, and begin a lifetime of collecting.
A real, former torpedo factory, the old pipes and concrete floors serve as an authentic backdrop for amazing artists and their work. I knew one of the very first artists who established a studio here, and now she is world famous. There is a "shop" where works by featured artists and students is for sale. A fabulous place for holiday and birthday gifts too!
Finally, the Torpedo Factory is a venue. I remember a USO dance in the lobby in 2004, and friends of mine held their wedding reception here too.
A wonderful resource for the community and for our visitors. I urge you add a trip to the Torpedo Factory to your list of must-sees on this side of the Potomac.
