The Torpedo Factory is, to me, three separate monuments. The first, and maybe not the most important to the reader, is that it forms the centerpiece of my weekend bike ride.
Second, it has served as the center of real, touchable art in the area for over 30 years. Here you meet the artists, see their work in progress, and begin a lifetime of collecting.
A real, former torpedo factory, the old pipes and concrete floors serve as an authentic backdrop for amazing artists and their work. I knew one of the very first artists who established a studio here, and now she is world famous. There is a "shop" where works by featured artists and students is for sale. A fabulous place for holiday and birthday gifts too!
Finally, the Torpedo Factory is a venue. I remember a USO dance in the lobby in 2004, and friends of mine held their wedding reception here too.
A wonderful resource for the community and for our visitors. I urge you add a trip to the Torpedo Factory to your list of must-sees on this side of the Potomac.

This is a great venue when you are visiting the historic City of Alexandria. There are three floors of artists here who work in their studios and offer the paintings, sculptures, wearables, and jewelry for sale. There are at least 50 artisans with studios here. There is also an artist training school and a archelogical exhibit regarding city artifacts. Recently, we noticed that there has been a changing of the guard for some of the artists. New blood so to speak which we consider invigorating for the spirit of the place. This is a particularly great venue for those of you who come across the river from National Harbor, since the Torpedo Factory is located a stone's throw away from the dock where the ferry boats unload.

This is one of my favorite places to visit. The building is interesting and I really enjoy seeing all the art as well as meeting the artists. Also a great place to find gifts. The second Thursday of each month, it's open until 9 p.m. They also offer a free tour on Fridays at 1 p.m.

Just a loft converted to be several eclectic artists' studios showcasing their work. Overpriced items. Airconditioning and clean bathrooms a plus

The building itself is quite artsy, and has the history of the torpedo factory on the walls through out. The vendors display there very unique art and pottery, and I noticed that they have art (painting) classes.
