Description: Red Hot and Blue is a full-service, casual-themed restaurant chain and caterer featuring delicious award-winning ribs, Memphis-style barbeque, smoked wings, and Southern sides and desserts. The atmosphere is steeped in legendary and contemporary blues music and delivers a large dose of Southern hospitality in a fun and entertaining dining environment. History: The first Red Hot and Blue restaurant opened in Arlington, Virginia in 1988, started by Lee Atwater, Don Sundquist and friends. Don Sundquist was from Memphis and served in the House of Representatives and as governor of Tennessee. The late Lee Atwater was an amateur blues musician and political figure that managed George H.W. Bush's successful race for the presidency. These men were friends who longed for authentic Memphis-style barbeque and great blues music. Unable to find that combination anywhere in the Washington, DC area they decided the only way to get it done was to open a restaurant of their own. The Memphis-style barbeque chain celebrated its 25th Anniversary in 2013 by partnering with a charitable organization at 24 different restaurant locations. The yearlong celebration culminated in the presentation of thousands of dollars in donations to local charities. The Name: The name, "Red Hot and Blue" is taken from the title of D.J. Dewey Phillip's radio show that that aired on WHBQ-AM in Memphis, Tennessee in the 1950s. This radio show launched the careers of Elvis Presley, Jerry Lee Lewis and Johnny Cash and broadened the audience for artists such as BB King, Muddy Waters, Robert Cray and Rufus Thomas. Red Hot & Blue Dine-In, Take-Out and Catering. Hickory-smoked Memphis-style BBQ, Ribs, Wings, Beef Brisket, Smoked Chicken, Seafood, Full-service Bar, in a Family-friendly atmosphere with a heapin' helpin' of Southern Hospitality!

“Good BBQ for Northern VA”
Reviewed June 12, 2014

Clearly, it's not Carolina-style BBQ, but Red Hot & Blue ain't bad. If you want the really good stuff, better head south. I enjoy the BBQ sandwich, seasoned fries, and various sauces on the table. Word of caution: be prepared to do a lot of waiting (even during slow periods) for service. Steer clear of the hamburger; it doesn't have much flavor.

“Good BBQ but not great like the south”
Reviewed February 12, 2014

I've been to at least 7 different RHB locations throughout Maryland and the Virginia areas and their food and service is very consistant, but it's not really over the top compared to places in NC, GA and even central NY State. Check out Sticky Fingers and Dinosaurs in the downtown Rochester, NY area.

“Good Food and Service, Nice Atmosphere”
Reviewed November 7, 2013

i was in town for a conference and went there for lunch one day. They had a nice lunch menu and i had a pulled pork sandwich with potato salad. It was very good, and there were a few different sauces to choose from. They served iced tea in a miniature pitcher, which was kind of novel. The waitress was friendly, and the decor was a patriotic theme. I could see this was clearly a place the locals go. You can a nice sit-down lunch and leave a 20% tip for $10 total.

“Decent BBQ”
Reviewed September 17, 2013 via mobile

I frequent this establishment a few times monthly. The Kingstowne location & they have a mobile site a different locations on Fort Belvoir. The food is decent, there is no consistency. It is hit or miss every time on the quality. There may be a difference in the cooks or prep staff. It is by far the best BBQ in the Fort Belvoir area. Just needs more attention to detail. Ensure you always check your to go orders.

“Must love bar-b-que”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

My hubby loves bar-b-que, I do not. So, maybe my fried shrimp wasn't a best choice in the first place, but it didn't agree with me, which makes me wonder about the oil used, or maybe my tummy is reminding me I should stick with healthier choices. Next time I'll try the pulled chicken sandwich. DH does love the pulled pork sandwiches here very much, and I couldn't help but notice the wings were popular with other diners.

The service was a bit slow, but on the other hand, you don't have anyone rushing you. The standard beverage glass is a clever mini-pitcher, so you won't need to see your server often for refills. It must hold 2-3 times the normal glass of water, iced tea, lemonade, or soda.

In the ladies room, one toilet is clean, the other has a ring around it, and after a couple of recent visits, I realize it must be stained. No excuse not to get it treated, though, as it seems to indicate indifference.
