Their are two parts to my review, the hotel itself and customer service.

First the hotel:
This rooms and facilities are fairly typical of this brand. The rooms clean and comfortable with the convenience of separate rooms and kitchen. The public areas are nice with the breakfast area located on the first floor. The gated parking garage can be a bit tight for large vehicles. The highlight of this hotel is the location. Within walking distances to the Metro station and Old Town. There are free shuttles that run up and down King Street, but we found it more convenient to walk, especially after a big dinner at one of the many great restaurants in the area! There is also a Whole Foods market just one block away, perfect for loading up on (healthy) supplies!

We found this hotel to be the perfect 'base' for our trip, with convenient access by Metro or car. It's much easier to drive to/from here than when I've stayed in DC itself.

As for customer service:

The reason for my review title is due to a significant lapse in communication by the staff which resulted in a serious disruption to our stay at this hotel. Suffice to say the disruption caused our family a significant amount of stress which was all due to a lack of procedural checks and balances. HOWEVER, the onsite manager and General Manager were extremely responsive and apologetic for the situation and made extra efforts to get everything back in order and make up for the incident. I especially want to call out the response and follow up by the General Manager who didn't hesitate to follow up with us.

By itself, I would rate this a four Very Good TripAdvisor "dots", however the way the GM managed the service issue makes this a five plus dot rating due to the excellent customer service. Typically most of the time customer service is based on experiences where there are no problems, however a true assessment is when things don't go well. Again, I credit the GM for how he handled our situation both during and after. A true demonstration of exemplary customer service WHEN it counts!

Bottom line is I will stay here again the next time we're in the area!

We stayed at this facility for a week. The staff was excellent and the facility was clean and well-kept. The only down side was the breakfast area. It was crazy busy every morning we were there. The location was great, near the Metro station and a short walk to the Old Town section of Alexandria. I would definitely stay here again

Great value, geat service, nice facility. Close to the metro and a central location for access to downtown Alexandria. Highly recommend, particularly if you travel with family.

We stayed here as family in a suite with two double rooms each with bathroom. A recommendation from a friend directed us here rather than staying in downtown Washington which I understand is a bit of a sterile "government" town in the centre, and we were very glad. We loved the proximity to charming Alexandria old town and the choice of restaurants - although we had mixed experiences! (choose by the looks and not the name). The hotel was friendly and efficient, our rooms were spacious and well equipped. We didn't use the pool - it looked a bit utilitarian, but other families used it so it must have been fine. We liked the breakfast provided, and didn't find the other guests and their children offputting as per one of the reviews here - yes, it's a family destination so you can expect some child-behaviour but we didn't see anything too bad, in my experience American parents expect good behaviour in public of their kids.
Excellent point is the proximity to King St Metro station and access to public transport - Washington metro is clean, quick and efficient, and not very expensive.

This Residence Inn is in a very nice neighborhood, close to King St. metro stop and good shopping and restaurants. Parking garage ($18 per day), was surprising nice, not as tight as I thought it was going to be. Staff very nice, room was a little worn but would still recommend. Big down side was the breakfast room. I actually sympathize with the hotel, as I am shocked at how parents let their kids behave and eat like animals, which is trashing the breakfast room. Carpet was awfully stained everywhere. Breakfast room is not conducive to upholstered furniture as it is all stained. It was very busy, but the staff seemed as though they could have worked a bit quicker and harder at keeping food refilled. Food was Ok. Weekday evening snacks/wine was very nice.
Terrible alarm went off at about 1am one night, staff didn't know why???? Having a lifeguard at the pool was good I guess, but awkward as the pool is extremely tiny, feel like he is just staring at you! I would have given this a "very good" if not for the Breakfast room and pool. Huge plus was the Whole Foods two blocks away.
