“Nice hotel, great location, housekeeping needs some retraining!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 14, 2010

The hotel is as nice as most Embassy Suites I've stayed at in the past. The location is excellent, directly across from the underground system and historic King street has all the great places to eat. The only issue we had was housekeepings inability to clean our room. We never asked for the sheets to be changed, but we did want new towels, so we left the used ones on the floor so they could be replaced each day for 3 days. Every day, the towels remained on the floor and nothing was replaced. So each evening we had to ask for new towels to be delivered and each time it was done with a smile but after 3 days we had a mountain of towels and a bit of a frustration with the daytime housekeeping staff.

Great rooms, great price. Most excellent location. Right across the street from metro to DC. 10 minute ride. Safe area. Old town is a great location with some unusal rstaurants. Good complimentary full cook to order breakfast. Must try Joe Thiesmans restaurant next door. Garage parking is $24.00 nightly but they were letting motorcycles park on street outside the check in desk.
Don't expect much help from the desk. With one exception I wonder how they find there way back to work.
I will stay there whenever I go to DC.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites in Old Town Alexandria in late July 2010. We were visiting Washington, D.C. as a family with 2 adults and 2 children. WOW....we loved the location! Right across from the King Street Metro Station, 20 minutes and you are in D.C.! Hotel room spacious, clean and the breakfast was great also! We did not like the parking fee 24.00 a day though! Also they charge for internet service which we did not like. Think that is quite steep. Loved exploring the Old Town in Alexandria, cute shops and restuarants. We would recommend this as an excellent location if you dont want to stay right in D.C. but want somewhere safe to stay and close to the Metro.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to write this review and I am pleased that you enjoyed your stay with us. As we are a condominium complex, the parking garage houses 1300 parking spaces for the hotels’ guests, employees, tenants, and daily/monthly metro traffic, and I am sure that given the opportunity to research the area, it would have been evident that our parking charge is either below cost or level with other hotels in the area. As for the Internet, we must follow the established guideline prescribed by Hilton Corporate, which does not offer complimentary Internet charges for the Embassy Suites Brand. Thank you for your well intentioned and well received comments.

Clean rooms. Convenient to Metro. Breakfast buffet was ok -- nothing special. We spent most days in DC and only went to sleep so it was ok...I stayed before at the Hilton across and it had much nicer rooms. This is good for a family though with the suites. We had a fire alarm go off at midnight but they took off parking fee for the inconvenience. Overall, it's a good place to stay when visiting DC.

This property is located directly across the street from the DC Metro - a great convenience. There are plenty of restaurants and shops close by. The hotel is fairly clean with pleasant staff. Rooms are large and quiet, however furniture and bathrooms are showing their age and could use updating. My room was very humid, despite much better conditions in the hotel common areas.
The rooms are not convenient or well suited to getting work done. Although the internet works well, the room has tables (no desk) and standard chairs, making it just like working at your diningroom table - uncomfortable after 15 minutes. I spent two days working, and feel like I need a massage and a Chiropractor to get me back to normal.

This hotel had everything we were looking for. Large rooms, breakfast every morning and close to metro. We also love the Old Town area. A nice place to walk around at night and/or have dinner.
When we arrived (before noon) our room wasn't ready but the young lady at the front desk took my cell number and called as soon as it was. Only had to wait about a half hour. We ended up taking the free trolley down King St. to find a bite to eat. Everyone who worked at the hotel was generally helpful and friendly. The room was clean and spacious and we had a nice view from our 7th floor window. We enjoyed the daily breakfast and the managers reception in the early evenings. Others have complained about the hotel charging to use the internet but they do have a "business/computer" area where you can check your emails or make reservations. Can't beat the location in my opinion. Old Town was great and a nice relaxing place to "hang out" after a busy day of sight seeing. I would definitely recommend this hotel!

I have been travelling to DC on business for the past several years and have stayed at a number of hotels in different parts of the area. I stayed at this Embassy Suites on one trip but it was a quick one night turn around.

There are many benefits that this Embassy Suites offers a touring family.

The location acrosss from the metro station made getting to our destination easy every morning. I had mapped out the metro stops for each locaton and we could reach them all without switching lines.

The free King Streey trolley stop is right in front of the metro station and we used it several times. For some rason the two Saturday nights we were there they were short a trolley so waits were onger and some people did not get on. We ended up walking back from the river one night. King Sreet is an added bonus. Several areas I have stayed in have little for kids to do at night. King Street is tourity and pricey but we were able to find places my kids would eat at.

It's true you have to pay for alcohol at the manager's special but it's a buck for beer and wine and two for mixed drinks. The timing worked great for us as we would come back from touring and grabs snacks and drinks for the room. We could relax in the room for awhile before heading out to dinner.

The pool is small. We never had to waith to get in as some noted in the comments. I can see where some large groups could dominate the pool. We had one large group of active and vocal group of teenagers in the pool with us a couple of times, but they were aware that there were smaller kids around.

The two weakest parts of stay were internet connection and breakfast. I know hotels that cater to business travelers charge for internet access because it uncreases profit. That doesn't mean that it doesn't impact my view of the stay. One of the three available computers was down much of the time we were there and the other two were almost always full.

It's nice to have a breakfast buffet at the hotel but there are some things they can improve on. First the selection of fresh fruit was very limited. It's not tht hard to add pineapple and cantaloupe or watermelon to the honey dew that was served each day. Throw in kiwi and strawberries every once in awhile. The other thing I didn't understand is having pancackes in the made to order line. I know they do this to have the pancakes fresher, and they were good, but in some cases having to wait behind ten people ordering omelettes to get three already made pancakes doesn't make sense.

As for crowds, the one Saturday we were there the breakfast area was mobbed. The two Sundays were fairly busy but manageable. The weekdays were not very busy. That may have been due to timing.

Overall I would recommend this hotel to others going on a family trip. I may also head back on a future busines trip to try out some of the restaurants that we couldn't go to with kids.

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. I am pleased that you had a pleasant stay at our hotel. We strive to provide the freshest food quality possible and for that reason our staff prefers to make the pancakes to order, as we have found that in the past they harden on the buffet line. Our goal is to accommodate our guests with special requests and hope that on your next visit we can provide you with your desired fruit choice. With regards...Sylvie Venne
