“Great Location and a Parking Tip”
Reviewed September 17, 2008

We were out for a Lacrosse Tournament. Rooms are typical Embassy Suites no better/worse than a current up to date property. The Metro is right across the street which was great to do the tourist monument thing as well as catch a National's game. The free trolly to the old town leaves from there as well, I think every 15 minutes. Parking for the "designated" hotel spots are very small and usually full. I just threw my hotel parking permit under the seat and parked one floor down where the regular customers park. We have stayed at the Holiday Inn about two blocks away and.. well you get what you pay for.

We stayed here a couple of weeks ago for 3 nights using Hilton Honors points so the only thing we paid for was parking. At about $18 a night it's not cheap but it's definitely cheaper than many other hotels in the DC areas. The good news is that once I parked the car I didn't need to use it until I left. Of course, once I parked it I didn't want to move it. I used to live in the area and I forgot what a pain it is to park in that garage with oddly place pillars and small spaces. What a pain!

The first room we were assigned had some problems where the lamps did not work and the bed configuration was not what we originally reserved. Our room was changed right away with no major issues.

The room was comfortable and typical for an Embassy Suite. The bed was comfortable and the armoire and dressers provided more than enough storage. The internet connection was a challenge on occasion.

The breakfast was okay. Long lines and reasonable selection. The manager's reception was not worth hanging around for unless you love salty corn chips and popcorn. Also be forewarned that the alcoholic drinks are not free but they are cheap. Not really a big issue from my perspective but an unexpected add-on to something that is normally free.

The location is perfect. The hotel is right across the street from the Metro providing easy access to DC. Old Town Alexandria has some excellent restaurants and the new free shuttle that runs up and down King Street was a God-send on a hot night.

The only real glitch in the stay was when the electricity went out (not the hotel's fault since the entire area was out and the situation was caused by a fire down the block). The hotel staff tried to give us information when they received it and provided light sticks and water for those of us that didn't want to rush up to our rooms 8 stories up. We eventually ended up doing that but the electricity did come back on several hours later.

Otherwise, we had a wonderful stay.

We recently stayed here because my son was getting married. The brides family picked this hotel because of the proximity to the wedding facility. The hotel is in an excellent location right across from the metro in Old Town Alexandria. The hotel is beautiful and clean and the rooms are OK. No closets anywhere in the suites and no in rooom safes. The main problems as descrbed by other reviewers is the staff from the managers on down. No one seems to care at all about the guests. We had 50 people staying here and could get almost nothing done without speaking to mulitple people. And yes they have cooked ot order breakfast with usually only one person cooking for the entire hotel which is quite large.
Just to bolster you confidence more the safe deposit boxes are all self serve with no oversite. Beware!
And yes as other reviwers I found the pool hours to be a mystery. No one know s when it is open. Ask the life guard in the pool itself he is the only one who really knows. My advice for the price stay at one of the neighboring hotels unless you get a deal on priceline.

This is a must stay for everyone. i must comment on biknrun's comments, because of her comment to contact MARGARET TERRY, I did and ended up having the most amazing time! She went WAY BEYOND the call of duty. She talked with me on the phone multiple times helping me plan our time at the Nationals baseball game, how to plan other places we were going and picking restaurants. She is an invaluable member of the Embassy Suites team.
Upon our arrival she met us with a collection of post cards for my 6 year old daughter to have, a written out forecast for our 4 days there, metro map, directions for our trip to Baltimore, printed out list of great things to do in Alexandria, and brochures of even more. She is amazing. She actually called and left a message for us to get in touch with us before we left and she made animal balloons for our kids!!! She was so conscience of our space and was certain not to intrude, she has a great talent for her job!!!!

The entire staff was wonderful. They were so quick to fix the temperature in our refrigerator and our remotes.

GREAT THINGS....
Rooms. We were in 322 and it was great...end of the hall not near the elevator and GREAT view of the metro, Amtrack train and trolley that ran. Great for kids!!!
Breakfast was great and quick, unless you wanted the made-to-order omletts or pancakes.
LOCATION is fantastic!!! We took the metro to the Nationals game and to go into DC to sight-see. Great location as well to hop on the interstate to get to Baltimore to go to the Aquarium. It only took an hour! The free trolley in Old Town Alexandriathat will take you down King Street- Highly suggest it, it was great. The end of King is great to see the Potomac River and other great shops. We ate at Bugsy's and loved it. The kids spaghetti was super! The kids loved it!
Loved the free shuttle that the hotel provided anywhere in a 2 mile radius of the hotel. We got the shuttle and they took us to Generous Georges and the kids loved it, the portions are way too big!! But it's a fun atmosphere! We called the hotel about 10 mins before we needed the shuttle and they were there!

Not-so-great:
Hmmmm, when the metro is crowded :0) Just ask Margaret for the best time to go!!! The pool was cold! :0)

In general okay but somewhat disappointing for the price and compared to other Embassy Suites. The room was very hot even though the Air Conditioning was set as low as possible. The evening cocktail hour was not complimentary as at other Embassy Suites, you must wait in one line to BUY tickets and then a second to get a drink. It was a slow wait and I guess I am accustomed to the complimentary drinks at other Embassy Suites. Parking is $18/night, you can park for free on the streets in the area - if you can locate a spot. On weekends you can also park at the Metro Station across the street but be careful because on weekdays these spots are limited to 15 minute parking for the Kiss and Ride. The breakfast was complimentary but unremarkable. There is an indoor pool but it was freezing cold and we did not get in. The elevator was slow and buttons did not light up for our floor. No major complaints but seemed disappointing for the $213/night that we paid.

We spent three nights at this Embassy Suites in Alexandria.

We didn't get off to a good start. I had read here on TA that the parking spots were tight. That would be a bit of an understatement. We wasted a good 25 minutes driving around in circles trying to find a spot where we could fit our mini-van. Many of the spots had poles on each side or if there was a spot that might have been large enough, another car was parked across their line and taking up part of the space. Finally, a hotel guest pulled out and we slowly backed our way into a spot only to discover that we couldn't open our doors in the front. Not exactly a wonderful thing after spending a few hours on the road in heavy traffic.

The lobby area is clean and modern. The atrium is large and open with an English garden design. Our room was very clean and updated with a large flat screen TV in the sitting area and granite countertops in the bathroom and wet bar.

This hotel does not have cots. It is the first Embassy Suites we have used that does not have cots. This was a bit of a problem since we had booked a room with a King Bed and sofa pull-out. One of our boys had to sleep on the floor for three nights. I guess I should not have assumed that they would have cots but have never run into this problem in the past. That lesson is now learned and I will call ahead in the future.

The breakfast was good. They kept most of their hot items in the cooked-to-order section and not at the buffet.

There were several options at the Manager's Reception including chips, popcorn, tortilla chips with sauce and hot nacho cheese, pretzels, and party mix.

The exercise room has three treadmills. One was broken while we were there. The other two worked fine. The room also had a small selection of free weights.

The location is terrific. The hotel is right across the street from the King Street Metro Stop. There is also a free trolley that will take you up and down King Street all the way to the waterfront. It leaves about every 15 minutes and it's a great way to get around. King Street is filled with shops, restaurants, ice-cream shops, and more. The waterfront area also has shops and restaurants and there is a walking path along the river.

The George Washington Masonic Temple is also near the hotel. Be sure to take the free tour if you have some extra time. The tour takes you to each level and it finishes on the top where there is an observation deck with gorgeous views over the city and river.

Alexandria is a gorgeous town and I would stay at this Embassy Suites again. Next time, we will use the parking spots where you have to leave your keys and we will request a two bed suite! :-)

we decided to spend a last minute weekend getaway to DC for the 4th of July. We got a great rate at this hotel. It slept our big family perfectly with the 2 double beds and pull out couch. The location is perfect. Across the street from the metro and into DC in 20 minutes. the kids loved the train ride! And if you want to spend time in the gorgeous town of Alexandria then you can easily walk all the way down to the waterfront to visit shops, bars, restaurants, etc.... Or, there is a free trolley to take you to and from right across the street. The hotel also has a van to take you to and from the waterfront. The breakfast is great and the happy hour even better!!! Loved this hotel, so clean and modern!
