“Nice hotel, quiet, good location, needs an update”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 31, 2012

We were exhibiting at the DC Convention Center and needed a hotel on the Metro that wasn't out of our budget. I'm from Northern Virginia and thought of the Embassy Suites.

Pros: Location - across the street from Metro, close to many attractions and restaurants in Old Town. I liked that we got a 2 room suite with a buffet breakfast for much less than in-town hotels. The hotel (and Alexandria city) offers free shuttle service up and down the 2-mile stretch between the hotel and the Old Town waterfront. The room was very quiet and clean. The FREE happy hour (with snacks) was great, as was the free breakfast buffet. Scrambled eggs were a bit on the sloppy European style than American, but overall it was good and I liked that they offered a generous variety of foods. I LOVED the Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries in the bathrooms. Nice!

Cons: Wifi is not included. I would prefer to have the price of wifi included in my bill (and maybe have the price of the room increased) than to keep connecting at $9.95 per day (per device). Rooms need updating: The TVs are ancient, the furniture is weathered, lighting isn't great, and the bathroom could be better. Also, there was no closet! Just an armoir. We had a real problem getting through on the phone lines; as did people who were trying to call us: The receptionists never answered main line at night. Kinda weird.

Overall, I would recomend this hotel.

Room Tip: I was on the 4th floor and could connect free to wifi in the restaurant downstairs. Colleagues were...

As everyone says, the location is excellent ~ great access to the Metro and an easy walk to the shops and restaurants in Alexandria. We read previous reviews, where people expressed concerns about the breakfast. The General Manager responded to these comments as we found the omelette line much shorter, and the use of chafing dishes for sausage, scrambled eggs & French toast, etc, sped up the process for those not wishing to wait for made to order omelets. The staff was attentive and friendly. The Manager's reception had quick service even though the lobby was packed.
We were in the new wing so the room had new amenities, the bathroom had adequate counter space for the two of us and the living room area was excellent. I have stayed here in the past, but I think that this experience was better than my first visit in 2009, and my stay was great back then! Thanks again. We will use this hotel as our base of operations in the future.
The price we paid was definitely worth it!

I stayed there a couple weeks ago as part of a break in the DC area and as others have noted the location is great for those who are coming into the area and flying into Reagan National Airport as it's about a ten minute ride on the Blue or Yellow Metro lines. I would note that guests will want to look carefully at a Metro map in terms of selecting which line one would use going into the District as some attractions would be easier to reach by the Blue or Yellow lines which don't follow the same route once they depart the Pentagon.

A literal stone's throw from the King Street Metro station (and Amtrak depot), this serviceable hotel was the hub for our 7-day, 6-night vacation to DC. Not only was the property adjacent to the Metro stop (and a 20-25 min. ride to the middle of D.C.), it's also next to the free trolley that goes to the waterfront district of Old Town Alexandria, where we opted to eat most nights after a day of touring. The rooms are spacious enough, supplying my wife and I a separate bedroom apart from the living room, where my son slept on a pullout sofa bed. The rooms are very clean and serviced well; we folded up the sofa bed before leaving every morning, only to return every evening to find the linens on it had been changed upon unfolding it for the night. The fixtures are a bit dated, particularly the cramped bathroom, which could use an upgrade. Parking is expensive (as it is throughout the area), so if you bring a car I suggest opting for a room package that includes a (cheaper) parking rate. The deck, however is attached to the hotel and easily accessible. Internet is not free, so we just opted to use access the Internet using our mobile network throughout the week. As with all Embassy Suites, breakfast comes with the package, which compensates for the somewhat pricey room rate. The breakfast was good, including a cook-to-order grill, although finding a table in the atrium eating area can be difficult during peak times. Should you choose to utilize the refrig and microwave, there's a Whole Foods Store within easy walking distance. Employees were nice and helpful, from the front desk to the grill cooks. We stayed during the week when it was quiet, but as the families/kids starting flowing in late Thursday, the atmosphere got busier and noisier. Wish it was a bit less expensive, but hey, convenience has a price.

This location truly can't be beat. It's right across from the King Street metro, giving you easy access to DC and the airport. It's a short walk to the main part of King Street with great restaurants and bars. Check in could have been a bit quicker but it wasn't terrible. The manager's reception with free beer and wine is a nice touch. Bartenders were very personable. I have to say, inside the room, the noise level was a bit high. All rooms face into the open area, so everything seems to echo, and there seemed to be a good amount of kids. The room was large, comfortable and clean, which is all we were looking for as we were just spending the night so we could attend a baseball game. The pullout couch was surprisingly quite comfortable. However, we thought the breakfast was beyond bad. There was a longish wait for the omlettes, and we were in a rush, so we decided to just get food from the hot buffet. Bad idea. Hard as a rock waffles, SUPER runny eggs (kind of surprised anyone was even eating them), dry sausage, you get the picture. Only saving grace-the coffee was decent. If you're going to eat here and are in a rush, stick with the toast/bagels, fruit, cereal-stuff that you can't screw up. If not, the omlettes really did look good but unfortunately we did not get to try them.

Room Tip: Pick a room away from the elevators and at a higher level of the hotel.

Thank you for taking the time to write this review. I appreciate that at time s the noise from the atrium does carry and may be heard in the living room portion of the suites. We did have a few groups in house that chose to meet in the atrium and could have been the cause of the noise during your stay. I will provide the information you indicated about the breakfast buffet to our F & B director to address, as this should definitely not be taking place. Of course our made to order omelet station is the way to go for freshness, but our buffet should provide our guests with a tasty alternative, when time is of the essence. I thank you again for your comments and look forward to your return to our property. Best Regards…MaryAnne Russell General Manager

We landed at the airport (not Dulles) and got right on the train and a few stops later we were at our hotel. It only took about 6 minutes to arrive right across the street from the Embassy Suites Hotel, Old Town. There is a Trolley that is free and you can take it right in to Old Town and get on and off as often as you like. The hotel was clean, comfortable and very quiet. There is a steak house next door and the hotel offers a happy hour with free drinks and snacks in the evening and a buffet breakfast in the morning. Overall we were very happy with this hotel.

Room Tip: The furniture in the sitting area was not the most comfortable as the seats were vinyl/leather like...

An updated review. The Embassy Suites in Old Town is a wonderful choice for a family reunion or event. All of our guests were happy with their rooms. It was great fun running into everyone for morning breakfast, or walking along King Street, or for the hotel's "happy hour" reception in the lobby. And the hotel is right near the train that takes you straight into D.C. Our family also took advantage of the hotel shuttle, and we got on the water taxi to National Harbor one evening for dinner. The hotel's "indoor-outdoor" atmosphere also added to the fun. We had a wonderful weekend, and the Embassy Suites was a great choice.
