We were exhibiting at the DC Convention Center and needed a hotel on the Metro that wasn't out of our budget. I'm from Northern Virginia and thought of the Embassy Suites.
Pros: Location - across the street from Metro, close to many attractions and restaurants in Old Town. I liked that we got a 2 room suite with a buffet breakfast for much less than in-town hotels. The hotel (and Alexandria city) offers free shuttle service up and down the 2-mile stretch between the hotel and the Old Town waterfront. The room was very quiet and clean. The FREE happy hour (with snacks) was great, as was the free breakfast buffet. Scrambled eggs were a bit on the sloppy European style than American, but overall it was good and I liked that they offered a generous variety of foods. I LOVED the Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries in the bathrooms. Nice!
Cons: Wifi is not included. I would prefer to have the price of wifi included in my bill (and maybe have the price of the room increased) than to keep connecting at $9.95 per day (per device). Rooms need updating: The TVs are ancient, the furniture is weathered, lighting isn't great, and the bathroom could be better. Also, there was no closet! Just an armoir. We had a real problem getting through on the phone lines; as did people who were trying to call us: The receptionists never answered main line at night. Kinda weird.
Overall, I would recomend this hotel.
