“Yankees Game!!”
Reviewed September 19, 2012

Late post, but better late than never. My husband, myself, and another couple stayed at the Embassy suites while we were in town to see the Yankees play the Nats. We had a great time. The hotel was typical Embassy Suites, great as ususal. The atruim was big and clean. The manager's reception was great. So you pay $2 for liquor, go next door to Joe Theisman's and you pay $7 (which that place is great as well). The breakfast truly makes the reason we stay here. You can't beat it. We were right across the street from the metro and train and within walking distance to most places in old town (or catch the trolly on the corner).

We arrived for our stay very early in the morning and were met by very friendly, welcoming and professional staff. We were given a suite that met all of our expectations and was extremely quiet. Just what we hoped for! The complimentary breakfast was more than we expected. Fresh omelets that are made-to-order, scrambled eggs, sausage links, diced potatoes, fruit, bagels, muffins, juice, yogurt and more. Very, very nice! The management staff even pitches in to clean empty tables so that they can be used by the next guests.
The metro is directly across the street with EASY access to Reagan National Airport (two stops away), Arlington National Cemetery, Nationals Park and all other Washington, DC attractions.
We wanted to catch a game for the Washington Nationals and it was about a 40 minute Metro ride away taking the yellow line to the green line and stopping at Navy Yard where the ballpark is located. We got discount tickets for the game at www.stadium-advisor.com using promo code TA1012 and received a 10% discount.
Enjolique who works at the front desk assisted us with our check-in, directions to shopping and restaurants, let us know about the hotels free shuttle within 2 miles of the hotel, how far the farmers market was from hotel and was just wonderful that made our trip that much more enjoyable and stress-free. Thank you Enjolique for all of your help, it was much appreciated!

Thank you so much for your review and especially for the acknowledgement of our front office agent Enjolique. We appreciate when our guests enjoy our property and what we have to offer, but believe that without our staff assisting and taking care of our guests, that we would be, just another place to stay. I will copy Enjolique on this review and look forward to your return to our property. Best Regards…MaryAnne Russell General Manager

The room showed a bit of age & wear, but, for the most part, all the innards worked well.
Our weekend (Labor Day) was a large percentage of children (which makes sense, based on their branding), but even with that, our room* was quiet.
The traffic patterning for the 'free breakfast' was a bit goofy, considering that they do this every day. People would wander around with dirty dishes on a tray, looking for somewhere to put them, and find nothing. Geez, this isn't that tough.
Would stay there again.
Access to the free King Street Trolley/shuttle was just across the street...and the METRO (King Street station) was just a fit farther...so trips down King Street (Alexandria) and into the city (DC) could not have been easier.
* The first assigned room, #837, had a loud thrummm-thrumm coming in from the ceiling of the suite-room, so we were happily re-assigned a room on the 4th floor.

Room Tip: anywhere ... but NOT the eight floor.

Thank you for your response. As we now have a newly renovated atrium and restaurant, our employees and guests are still adapting to the different pattern. Management is keeping an eye and attempting to regulate/alternate for best traffic flow. This is a work in progress and will continue to be so, until the optimal pattern is found. I am pleased that nonetheless you will return to our property, and look forward to your return. Best Regards…MaryAnne Russell General Manager

The staff was so accommodating during our visit with travel assistance, providing forgotten items. I would highly recommend this place.

Pros: great breakfast, manager reception, clean rooms, fabulous staff, across the street from Metro
Cons: it is a little far from downtown DC. I think we spent quite a bit on the metro and it took some time to get to the attractions. I think staying closer to downtown would have been better.

Thank you for your review. I always say that our best asset is our staff and I am pleased that you think so as well. Although we are not in DC itself, I do believe that our location is ideal for the majority of guests who want convenience to DC but a more relaxed and valued stay. The ride into DC usually takes approximately 15-20 min. but I can appreciate that perhaps with very young children it may seem longer. I hope we will be able to serve you again, given the opportunity. Best Regards…MaryAnne Russell General Manager

We stayed for six nights on family vacation. As with any Embassy Suites, the suite had a fair amount of space. Location was great, but the pool/spa is still being worked on.

What we really liked:
- Space in the living area and bedroom--perfect for the family.
- Great location--right next to Metro, with restaurants close by.
- Housekeeping was excellent!
- Breakfast--lots of options with good food.
- Overall good value.

What we didn't like:
- The bathroom was too small for family travel--doesn't match the size of the suite.
- The breakfast line is crowded here (even if you're not in the made-to-order line)! Get in line before 8 AM or prepare to wait.
- There were no signs indicating where to find the pool or fitness equipment.

What we really, really didn't like:
The pool is still under renovation, contrary to what we had been told. Before I booked, I called the property specifically to ask if the pool renovation would be complete before our stay. I was told yes, the pool was already re-opened. Well, the pool itself is done (and there is drywall up), but the hours are spotty. On one occasion we got all our swimsuits on and went to the pool only to find they had closed it that day (with no notice that we could find) 8am-5pm for renovations. That's a BIG deal when traveling with small children. (We likely would have stayed at the same property but could have adjusted our schedule.) I was very disappointed that we were given misleading information--have never had that issue with Embassy Suites. (And I would have given our stay an "Excellent" rating if not for this.)

Based on previous reviews, we did not attempt to park at the hotel, instead parking with family a few blocks away.

Room Tip: Main elevators and dining portion of atrium are on the east side of the hotel--I would think rooms o...

Thank you for giving our hotel such a detailed review. As a mother myself I can appreciate how important it is to have an available pool for the children’s enjoyment. There must have been an unforeseen event closing the pool for the day, as we made every effort to make sure that the pool was open (although not looking it’s best) for our guests usage. I am pleased that your rating of our hotel would have been an “Excellent” had it not been for the pool and hope that we can still retain your rating on your next visit. Typical and reliable Embassy Suites with a great location.Twenty minute walk or free bus down King Street to water front area for shops/bars/restaraunts etc or cross the street to King Street Metro for DC or elsewhere - all very easy. Also a Whole Foods Market within a five minute walk. The George Washington Masonic Memorial is about fifteen-twenty minutes walk and is well worth the visit, if only for the view from the top (access by lift). But in fact we found the visit interesting and informative.
Parking can be a challenge (very tight spaces),we had a Grand Caravan and anything larger would be almost impossible to park.

Room Tip: Maybe the higher floors are quieter

Thank you for writing this review. As you, we appreciate the location of our hotel as it offers the convenience of easy access to the DC area without having to stay in the hustle bustle of the city and enables our guests to visit and enjoy old town Alexandria’s waterfront location with it’s quaint shops/ boutiques and restaurants. Please let us know next time you visit as we do have a few larger parking spaces that are available for guests with oversized vehicle like yours. Best Regards…MaryAnne Russell General Manager

Overall this Hotel was nice. Pro's: Enjoyed the free morning breakfast buffet. Very quite at night and very comfortable clean beds. (No bed bugs here !) Spacious with the two rooms, and even had a microwave and mini refrigerator plus two Televisions. In walking distance to the train and King street shopping district Cons: Parking as quite full and hard to find a spot - especially with the huge rental car For Expedition. Barely fit into a parking spot. If you go here rent the smallest car possible. You can order Pizza to your room. The couch and table were greasy and never cleaned from previous visitors. The switch plate in the bathroom, very dirty never cleaned. bathroom cabinets looked like old painted plywood. Hotel is showing its age. Room Wi-fi not free but you can pick up the free Caprese Lounge wi-fi if you search for it. Couldn't find the Pool & Spa. (No signs indicating where it was located)

Room Tip: Had a room on the 5th floor that was pretty good.

Thank you for your evaluation of our hotel. How nice that you enjoyed our full cooked to order breakfast in the mornings. I do not see that you were able to attend our Manager’s Reception and enjoy a relaxing dinner drink (or two) with snacks before dinner. Perhaps on your next visit you may avail yourself of this feature? I will address the cleanliness of the switch plates in the rooms with our Executive Suitekeeper, hoping that it may have been an isolated incident. As we have just completed our atrium, restaurant and exercise facility renovations, we are excited about our room updates to take place next year and hope you may return to see for yourself the changes.
