“Good staff, Great food”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 5, 2011

I have been to two Genghis Grill restaurants now after visiting this one in Alexandria. The restaurant is almost hidden at the end of the shopping center. Its on the left side of the plaza when viewing the Shoppers Supermarket in the center.

The staff at the previous one I visited in Tallahassee, Florida were nice. I mentioned so in my review about it. This staff was even more so at this location. All of them seemed happy to work there and glad that we came in as patrons to their restaurant. They have a lot of fresh ingredients on the selection bar. I personally approve of the meatballs they had.

Pros: The food will be good if you know what you like. They cook up what you give to them along with a starch such as udon noodles or a rice.
The staff were very friendly and helpful.
The cost is quite reasonable for the service you get.
The portion size may seem small at first, but it is quite enough for the average person.
The flavored teas and lemonades are the best.

Cons: The location is very hidden. Be sure to go to the left side of the shopping center so you can find it.

“Try Mongolian Barbeque”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2011

Genghis Grill is a Mongolian-Barbeque-style restaurant located in the Festival Manchester Lakes shopping center, which can be found on review sites variously as Alexandria, or Springfield, or Kingstowne.

This place is a good choice for a relatively inexpensive meal (under $12 per dinner entree as of 08/2011), that caters to a wide variety of tastes. Service seems to be hit or miss - friendly helpful and efficient except when it isn't. The basic concept: the diner is issued a small bowl and can individually pack the bowl with a variety of items chosen from a buffet bar of raw foods including various vegetables, meats, sauces and spices. The amount of food depends on how successfully the diner can pack/stack the bowl. The diner takes the filled bowl to a large round grill in the middle of the restaurant where the bowls are individually grilled. The diner can wait around and watch the operation or go to a table and wait for the server to deliver it.

The pluses: Diners can individually design the taste and content of the entree. Your dining experience depends on your culinary instincts. Or, for the less adventurous and more dubious diners, the restaurant has preselected cheat sheet guides.

The minuses: This place can occasionally get crowded. When it does, it gets noisy, and the wait for dinner gets long and tedious.

If you want to enjoy the experience, arrive early or late or on an off night. If you see a crowd, go elsewhere. If you are a Mongolian Barbeque aficionado, this is a bland/chain experience. If you haven't done Mongolian Barbeque before, give it a try. for a novel dining experience that caters to multiple tastes.
