We went on the Monument Cruise and really enjoyed it. There were some excellent views as we went up the Potomac. The monuments looked cool from the Potomac and it was neat to see all the airplanes taking off and landing at Reagan National. Everyone was really friendly and the boat was not crowded. I wish I had planned out what to do in Georgetown ahead of time. It was nice to see, but we really didn't know where to go once we got there. It started to rain on the way back, so we just moved inside and enjoyed the trip from there.

We spent a hot and humid August afternoon on a round trip water taxi ride from the National Harbor dock over to the Old Town Alexandria dock and back. Adults - $16/person; Child (2-11) - $10/person. We were the first in line and first to board an empty water taxi. We chose to sit outside on the right stern of the boat. It was hot and to see anything meant keeping your head turned to the right or looking behind you which was uncomfortable to do for long periods at a time. There was a water cooler inside to replenish your bottles that you obviously brought with you for the trip.

You pass under the Woodrow Wilson bridge in Maryland then into the District of Columbia waterway finally ending up in Virginia when you make it to the Alexandria dock. Unexpected entertainment we saw on the trip was a boater getting pulled over by a police boat with sirens full blast and use of the loudspeaker. This was a special treat for my young son as he's at the age where he finds police and their sirens fascinating. The chased boater must have really been doing something wrong since the police ended up towing the offender's boat back to shore. We also saw birds swoop down to catch fish in the water, the Capitol building and Washington Monument in the background.

We couldn't hear the tour commentary from the speakers sitting outside in the stern of the boat due to the noise of the boat's engine and brakes. Return trip back from Alexandria first stopped at Gaylord National Hotel dock and then back to the National Harbor dock. The total round trip time was approximately 1 hr and 10 minutes.

We used this service twice while at Gaylord National resort. We took the shuttle to Alexandria one evening and the trip to Mount Vernon.

One word of advice don't wait till the last minute to purchase tickets or board. Buying tickets was a painfully slow process. One time we had to run over to the National Harbor landing to get tickets and board-the captain knew people were waiting to get tickets but basically said too bad and if you can get to next stop OK. When we came back from Alexandria same captain very rude to people getting there just as about to pull out from dock .Very rude and unprofessional.

The trip to Mount Vernon from Gaylord no such problem. Very enjoyable and very friendly and professional staff. Trip was fantastic and I would highly recommend the trip to George Washington's home.

It was great to see the monuments lit up at night. Unfortunately, halfway out the rains came down and we had to spend the rest of the trip inside. The staff was friendly and helpful.

Took one way trip from Georgetown to Old Town Alexandria, about a 45min ride. They give you some insights into the sights along the cruise, bridges, monuments, etc. Open air boat, so be wary on hot, humid days (up front you get the breeze to cool you off).

Tip: Take the cruise around sunset, truly spectacular view from the boat as the city is lighting up for dusk and the sunset creates colorful skies.
