Just returned from DC trip which was timed so that we could see a major league game in the beautiful Nationals Park Stadium.. We decided to avoid the Metro and the hassle of driving to the park: instead opting for the water taxi experience, views and convenience. This boat leaves from Alexandria VA and gets you to the game in time to pick up concession food and get to your seat and it stays at the game leaving 20 minutes after the last pitch Truly enjoyed the friendly fellow passengers, polite and professional boat employees and the great overall experience. Parking in Alexandria, VA was free (with boat ticket purchased on-line), at a close-by lot, so the price was $24 RT per person which could get pricey for a large family. Will do it again!

Went on the Washington monuments scenic cruise along the Potomac. Very easy to get to the marina, parking only $5. You can sit outside on the top deck of the boat or inside with the air conditioning. Very informative about the history and the sights along the Potomac. Can get off in Georgetown and pick the boat back up later.

Nana, Mom and Dad accompanied two pirate-loving little boys on this 40-minute cruise from Old Town Alexandria to the Wilson Bridge and back. We had a nice time, but it was a little disappointing in that the only thing pirate-y about the boat was a Skull and Crossbones flag flying off the stern, and the two energetic and affable costumed pirate hosts. I guess we were expecting big sails, cannons or something other than an open tour boat with a canopy, but they did teach some pirate lingo and we had fun with that. Having lived in the area for many years, we were also pleased to still learn some interesting facts we hadn't heard before, They did give the ten or so kids on board a bag with pirate goodies in it, which was appreciated, but get this: as we boarded they handed out pirate swords to each child. Oh wonderful, this is fun! But...at the end of the cruise you had to return these foam rubber swords! Are you kidding me? Take this treasure away from a two year old? Come on, get real....charge another dollar and let the kids keep the swords, or at the very least when you hand them out as they board TELL them they will have to return them!!! Fortunately (and amazingly) there were no tantrums, but I thought it very odd and not great PR.

We took the 7:30pm cruise from Alexandria, Va. There is a tape that plays on speaker explaining the sights as you go around. Stops in Georgetown to pick up and drop off.
By now it was dark and the lights were beautiful. The return trip was wonderful and worth the time. If there are lots of kids onboard it would be hard to hear the tape, narration could have been better with headphones for those that are really interested. But the night lights were
great. $28 per person

This was a very nice getaway from it all. Our tour was nice, but I wish it would have included more detailed info on the sites. We got a few 'microphone here's this & that but I would have liked to know more details of what we were seeing as we went by. The sites are breathtaking & we got some real good shots of the Pentagon & Washington monument.
