“Wonderful place for Italian Food”
Reviewed August 5, 2010

Excellent place for lunch. Informal yet classy. Resonable portion size and prices. Would have their meal of the day (just under $20) with entree, dessert, etc., but would if were hungrier.
Several vegetarian options and pasta choices.
Had eggplant parmegan one time, and a penne pasta with marinara sauce the next day.
Tasty bread comes with olive oil.
Courteous wait staff, but not pushy. Felt comfortable and I will definitely come here again when am in Alexandria.

“Eh...Ok, I guess”
Reviewed July 3, 2010

I had heard so much about this place, like it was a jewel in the crown of Alexandria's dining scene. I found the service in attentive, and the food average. Certainly edible but for the size of the portions it was overpriced. There are so many other places to go in Old Town and Del Ray, with better service that don't see going back to this one.

“Unfathomably, overrated”
Reviewed June 10, 2010

We live in Old Town and eat out in Alexandria about once a week. "Italian" is a favorite. Over the past years, we've visited "A la Lucia" maybe a dozen times. On our first visit--now, quite some time ago-- we were wowed: Great food and service, at a fair price. The restaurant became popular and expanded. Now, (seems to me) it coasts on its reputation.

On our last 2 visits, about 8 months apart, both the food and the service were terrible. Most recently, we arrived on a Thursday, after 9:30pm when the restaurant was half-full--hoping for better service. If anything, it was worse: drained water glasses went unfilled, food runners repeatedly brought dishes meant for other tables, while our own food arrived late and lukewarm. I had a simple spinach/ricotta canneloni with a glass of wine--and went home feeling nauseated and ill, yet a again after the previous meal there. Shame on us, for still going back!

“Great Meal”
Reviewed January 18, 2010

This place was about seven blocks from King Street. It was not a bad walk at all. We got there early and canceled the reservation so that we could eat at the bar. The barmaid was happy to serve us. She and the waitresses were on top of everything even as the bar side became filled as the night wore on. The duck salami was a good starter. The braised lamb shank was amazing as it fell off of the bone.
