We live in Old Town and had avoided this restaurant because of negative feedback from the locals. But we liked The Tasting Room next door and decided to reserve at Brabo for my birthday. What a mistake. What I had imagined to be a nice restaurant turned out to be a Hilton Hotel eatery. Patrons in baseball caps, shorts and flip flops. Tourists. Any menu with $36 entrees should at least try and enforce some manner of dress code. Fake candles. A meh menu.
The $18 crab cake was stringy (not a lump in sight) and tasteless. We decided to split the loup de mer. What would have been a single portion the size of a deck of cards was split into the size of matchbooks. The tomato puree underneath tasted straight from a jar of Prego. With limp scallions which didn't serve any purpose.
Total bill: $150. Two glasses of wine and one cocktail.
For hotel guests, there a dozen better restaurants in Old Town. Service was indifferent. Ordered frites with a trio of sauces which didn't show up until we asked.
Couple next to us, the guy was drinking coke out of the bottle. Wearing a t-shirt.
Total rip off. Cannot fathom the positive reviews unless they are being posted by the management.
