“Fantastic views and fabulous sushi bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 9, 2013

My husband and I stayed one night at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center on our way to Florida and arrived rather late after a long drive and lots of traffic. The front desk clerk was very welcoming and gave us a beautiful upgrade to a corner room on the 21st floor, The room was spacious with fantastic views. I loved having a mini refrigerator in the room and the extra powder room space next to the bathroom to place toiletries. The hotel sushi bar was a real find and such a great change from the average hotel fare. We have also stayed several times in the newly renovated Hilton at Tyson's Corner and Hilton has a real advantage on their competitors with their improved in house dining.

Convenient to I-95 and courtesy transport to DCA and Metro, the Hilton Mark Center is an exceptionally well-maintained hotel with great rooms and spacious and attractive common areas. The staff was friendly and helpful, and the food at Finn&Porter was a bit above common hotel fare. Self-parking (daily fee) is convenient to hotel entrance. The area is mostly apartment and office buildings, so don't go thinking Old Town is right around the corner. The only downside to the room was the dressing bench at the foot of the bed. It's not one of those things you want to navigate on that 3am trip to the bathroom.

Room Tip: Ask for upper floor.

Reservation line on the Hilton 1-800 number made a mistake but the hotel manager handled the situation very well. Long story short, I got a standard room instead of a suite and the manager lower the rate for the room. It took about an hour for us to get our room to stay in third try but I am still satisfied the way the hotel manager handled the situation. Mini-fridge in the room was kinda old and smelly so I ended up not using it.

When i arrived, i was impressed with how nice this place looked. Little did i know what was in store for me during this stay. The hotel is 30 floors so when i was assigned a room on the 16th floor i thought it would be fine. I walked in and discovered that the shower had evidently come apart and the handle was laying on the top of the toilet lid. Hmm. Called and got a new room on the 26th floor. Turns out that i probably should have gotten that floor since they were for Hilton Honors members, which i have been a member for many years. The furniture needed some repair, the dresser drawer wouldnt close and many pieces looked well worn where suitcases had hit them. The bathroom had a great lighted mirror with bright light been filtered from behind. The bathroom was very small with the door almost hitting the toilet when opening. Nice toiletries by Philip Thomas Roth. After breakfast with colleagues the next morning, we walked out to return to our rooms to get materials for the meeting and discovered the firefighters in the lobby trying to pry open an elevator. After waiting about 5 minutes, i asked where the service elevator was and headed there to go upstairs. Since many others had the same idea, that took about 10 minutes. FInally after getting my things from the room, i had to walk down the 26 flights because the elevators were still out of order. WHen reaching the main floor, the only eit was to the outside or through the management offices, which had a cypher lock. One nice fellow opened it and let a few of us through. As we entered, many of the staff challenged us and why we were there. Not very hospitable. In the lobby we heard people talking that the elevators do this pretty often.. Beware of those elevators! Had a decent breakfast in the restaurant and also a nice lunch there, though the service left a lot to be desired. This place is not near a metro or any restaurants so be prepared to take a taxi or bring a car.

Room Tip: Ask for the side which faces DC otherwise you look out to the freeway

I stayed here in mid-January for two nights on business. It was very easy to get to from I-395, which is a bonus when you aren't familiar with the area.
The room was modern and attractively decorated, and good sized. It had an interesting divider that separated the bedroom area, and I didn't hear any hallway or real outside noise.
There's a nice restaurant for breakfast--you can order from the menu or the buffet. I chose the buffet because I was in a hurry. They had very good quality hot and cold items--wonderful oatmeal. And it was only $10 on the first morning, but then the price went up to $14 on Friday. Not sure what the cause of that was, but there was a wonderful waiter who was friendly and attentive. I was able to get in and out quickly, but still have a good meal with excellent coffee.
I wasn't keen on the $20 parking fee either, but the rate I paid for the room was reasonable compared with other properties in the area, so it wasn't that big of a deal for me. There was free wireless for Hilton Honors members.
It was a pleasant stay with no issues.

This is a nice hotel with very attentive personnel. Room service was prompt with quality food choices and reasonably priced. The one draw back, which was sort of outrageous was the parking fee of $20.00 per night, $24.00 for valet. I choose valet parking due to a longer walk and arriving in the dark and leaving each morning while still dark with lots of luggage. They only needed 5 minutes notice and the car was there, warmed up and at the front door. Worth the extra $4 dollars. The rooms were very comfortable and nicely decorated. The bath room was slightly tight, however the bath tub was larger than what I see in other hotels. Very comfortable place to stay.

Nice hotel, comfortable beds. Free internet in the lobby. Good stay for visit to Washington, DC, area. Shuttle provided. We were there for Inauguration. It's not five minutes away from the district, but the hotel provides shuttle to train station.

Room Tip: Be sure to speak up if it gets too warm during the winter months!
