A quiet little out of the way French bistro! The food was very, very good and much of it from the farms around DC. I had the squash soup, Moules, and Christmas roll cake. My wife had a true Caesar salad, Bouillabaisse, and the cheese sampler dessert. Really, really good. And the prices were very reasonable give the quality of the food!

I've tried making mushroom soup at home. Several times. Nothing I ever concocted even came c close to this divine taste treat. It was world class stuff like I've seldom tasted in the best five star restaurants. What Bastille lacks in its physical plant (curtained off dining room), it more than makes up with the quality of its food. Cheers to the Chef!

We went to the Bastille on a week night with friends. It was an early dinner because we had to catch a flight. The space is attractive and so is the simple and understated elegance of the decor. We had tried to make reservations unsuccessfully in the past and were looking forward to our meal. It was average at most and not a good value. The four of us took the $39 menu and each ordered a glass of wine. The wines were fine. The beet salad appetizer tasted good, but no better than an ordinary beet salad made at home. There were no special touches to make it interesting. Our friends had the fried shrimp which was fried brown rather than golden. The steak main courses were served with a mountain of fries, again fried to a crisp (excessively so). My duck was good and so was my husband's salmon. The roasted vegetables that accompanied our main course were undercooked. Desserts were good and the small portions perfect. The waitress who took our order showed impatience when we asked a couple of questions before ordering. All in all, it was an OK meal that left us a bit disappointed because of the reviews we had read.

We had a lovely lunch today before a matinee performance at MetroStage Theatre next door and couldn't have been more pleased. The food and ambience were outstanding, and the 3-course $25 lunch is a fabulous deal. Service was timed very well and we felt very relaxed. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the mussels and duck and apple tatin were all delicious, and I am looking forward to trying other menu items - we will definitely go back. Bravo, Bastille!

only had sunday brunch but it couldn't have been better.
a bit out of the way, but it is nice to get off King Street
for a bit and see a bit more of Alexandria - especially the
drive along the river.
Excellent counrty French and if dinner is as good as brunch
and I expect it is - it is a new favorite stopping place.
