Parking is behind the hotel; a small, unmarked lot. Park and walk around to the front to check in. Room key is needed to enter underground parking garage (costs an addt'l $18) and for elevator. Parking spots are tight. There are 3 levels going down. Stayed on 13th floor #1311. Room was clean, checked mattress, no sign of bed bugs nor is this hotel on the bed bug registry. Full kitchen is a nice touch. Water pressure in shower is great. they could upgrade their toilet tissue. Metro rail lines are directly next to the hotel. I could barely hear the train as it passed, and it passes often; this would not deter me from staying here. Free "more than continential" breakfast is awesome. Potatos, eggs, pancakes, waffles, pork sausage (no turkey meat option for those like me who don't eat pork or beef), coffee was even good. Would definitely stay again.

We were on a house hunting trip to Va and decided to stay at this Marriott. When we arrived I was a bit concerned, because parking is not readily identifiable. The parking garage is under the hotel, as with most hotels in the area, but it is not marked well and you need a room key to access. But once we figured this issue out, check-in went smoothly.

We had a king room. Rooms are large and have the standard kitchen if you are interested. Good HDTV reception, albeit, a bigger screen would be nice, but it is on a nice swivel stand.

Here is where we had a strange occurrence. When we turned the TV on, only some channels had sound. We called the front desk, who promptly sent up a maintenance man. He came in and noticed we turned the light off over the sink in the kitchen. His comment was "this light must always be on to prevent putting stuff down the sink," and he turned the light on, very weird. Next he re-booted the TV and the sound came on on all channels. He then made a comment "your room is cool enough, I am turning off the AC," and he proceeded to adjust the temperature upward until the AC turned off. Then he left the room. Very creepy and abrupt.

The bed was comfortable and the breakfast in the AM was also very good.

The hotel has very limited parking.

Overall I would stay here again, because I am a Marriott Gold Member, but that staff member interaction was very odd.

We picked this hotel from the smart phone as we were driving south on I-95. It was very convenient to get to from the highway.

First note, there is very limited parking at the hotel. There is a park right up a small hill that had free parking.

We had just pulled in and I parked the car as it started to get really windy and lightning was everywhere. As soon as I got into the hotel it started pouring. My wife was already up in the room and I hopped into the elevator. The elevator started getting stuck between floors and the power was flickering. As I finally, thankfully got to the floor and the door opened, I made it to our room. We watched outside as a massive storm hit the DC metro area. The power flickered a few more times and the satellite TV went out but the hotel never lost power. Meanwhile, more than a million people lost power in the massive storm that July night. We were nice and secure in the hotel.

The breakfast was OK in the morning... nothing really spectacular... but it did the job.

Rooms were nice and new and the facility was clean.

I travel frequently to the DC area. This hotel is one I would always choose. The rooms are always just what I need – kitchen, internet (wired and wifi), sofa . I can always get a good night's sleep because the beds are very comfortable. The location is ideal with its metro access to all of the DC (including the airport) and van service, and walking distance to Old Town area - making a car unnecessary. The complimentary breakfast is just what I need in the morning.

However, the thing that really puts this place over the top is the staff. They are extremely helpful, accommodating and friendly. When my wife came to town, they arranged for a special room and went out of the way to make her feel welcome. They are always ready and willing to give me a hand.

The Residence Inn Alexandria Old Town South at Carlyle has all the amenities you would want in a hotel. We stayed in a one bedroom suite that had everything anyone would normally need on a stay including a full kitchen. The staff were friendly and helpful and the room was clean and spacious. The exercise room was well stocked with all the aerobic equipment and weights you need to keep you in shape while you are away from home. We have stayed here twice while visiting our son and daughter-in-law and will definitely stay again the next time. This is especially true on weekends. Their weekend special was $129 for the one bedroom suite, it could have been even less if we paid in advance for the lower non-refundable rate. To top it off, the breakfasts were free had many varieties for everyones taste including hot items.

Room Tip: Pay a few dollars more and get the one bedroom suite.
