We choose this hotel based on its location and after reading earlier reviews here. And we're glad we did. This was our first visit to DC and we took the Metro three days into the Capital. We have two teenage boys and loved the room the suite offered us. The breakfast fed all of us well and the evening reception was our evening meal two out of the four nights we were there (we ate out other two). In getting to the Metro, we highly recommend the short drive to Ballston Mall parking lot (only $8 all day). It's about a 10 minute walk through the Mall to the Metro station (all labelled, easy to follow for us first time Metro users). By the way, the Mall parking lot is off of Glebe Road. The only real issue that annoyed us about the Hotel was that the staircase doorway to the back parking lot was always ajar; this is not a keyed entryway and it bothered us as a security issue that it was always open.

This hotel was outstanding for our family. The suite was sparkling clean and the carpet felt clean and fresh walking on it with bare feet. The bathroom was sparkling as well. The bed was extremely comfortable and plush. The suite had a small refrigerator and freezer, stove and dishwasher. The outside pool was delightfully located in a sheltered area in the rear of the hotel. The morning breakfast buffet offered many choices and the quality was very good. There is also an evening reception offering food for the guests. We checked in the wee hours of the morning and the gentleman at the front desk was very helpful and friendly. The ladies during the day at the front desk were also very friendly. The lobby is wonderfully decorated in a cozy style and had an ample amount of seating area. The hotel also offers a business room complete with internet access with a printer and fax machine for their guests. If I am ever in the area again I will definitely stay here again.

This was our second stay at the Homewood in Alexandria, and both have been good experiences. The rooms are nice & in good condition, the staff is helpful, and for a family our size (mom + dad + 2 large boys), it is the best place I've found so far that we fit into comfortably, is not horribly expensive like most hotels in the DC area, and is still close enough to DC and Alexandria to be convenient. I expect we will stay here again if we make another visit to the DC area.

We stayed here for 3 nights with our 4 children, ages 6-14. It was perfect for us; the room had a full kitchen, and 2 beds plus a pullout.
The breakfast was great for our family, and the real bonus was the evening manager's reception. Each night there was a different light meal (burritos, tuna salad sandwiches) plus a full salad bar, veggies/chips and dip, drinks, and warm cookies.
There was a small, outdoor pool, good enough, though to satisfy even the teenagers after a long day of sightseeing.
Our family really enjoyed the large lobby with tables and a pool table and TV...hot cocoa and coffee and fruit were always available.
Grocery and shopping was just minutes away. It was perfect for a large family who can't fit in a traditional hotel room, and cheaper than rooms in the city. We could not locate many places, even other suite hotels, that would let us put 6 in one room.
Customer service was excellent, at the desk, and with regard to food service.
The rooms/furniture will be in need of updating shortly, but we didn't spend so much time in the room that it mattered to us.
It was about a 10 minute drive to most attractions in DC, so you'd need a car.
Overall, I'd stay there again with my family anytime!

We stayed here for a long weekend getaway in January and had a wonderful time. The hotel is in close proximity to the interstate entrance as well as shopping and restaurants. Parking is FREE and ample. The staff was friendly and the rooms were always clean and promptly made up. Breakfast was good and my husband and I enjoyed the 24-hour coffee service prominent in the lobby by the fireplace. We took advantage of the delivery service by local restaurants to the hotel. It was only $35 for a delivered meal for 5 people from Red Hot and Blue. They had several other restaurants available. To get into DC, we drove to the Pentagon Mall (about 5 minutes away), parked there and took the Metro in. We had a fabulous time. We definitely would recommend this place to others and will come back again.

Our experience at the Homewood Suites was superb. We stayed 6 nights in late June. The staff was very nice as was our stay. Our room was spacious (1 bedroom suite.) it consisted of 2 double beds, a pullout sofa, which was perfect for our family. 2 tv's were very nice as well. Beds were very comfortable. A request for extra pillows and towels were granted in a timely fashion. Personnel were very helpful with directions to restaurants and points of interest. In-room complimentary hi-spped internet was very nice as well. Can't say enough good things about the hotel staff. The breakfast was very nice as well. Scrambled eggs every morning, bacon one day, then sausage links the next. Fresh baked muffins daily, as well as toast, bagels, english muffins, bisquits, sausage gravy, and a make your own waffle station. Fresh fruit, cantaloupe, bananas, apples, as well as cereal, and yogurt too. Juice, orange, milk( 3 kinds) cranberry juice, spring water. Coffee, tea, and hot chocolate as well. The girls at the breakfast station were extremely nice.

Monday thru Thursday they offer a managers evening buffet as well. This was very nice as well. Cold cuts, one evening, cheeese manicotti, another evening, then chicken and rice the other evening we were there. A salad bar also each evening. It was more than adequate. Soda, and milk also was available.

The pool was small but nice. An excercise room was availble for guests use, with a stairmaster, and tread mill as well as a weight training station. A water cooler to quench your thirst was available as well. There was a televison also in the excercise room. There was also a whirlpool bath on property, which was very nice.

The property was located on a busy street. Close to many restaurants and banks and shopping malls. Olive Garden, TGI Friday's, Popeye's, MacDonald's, Target, Safeway, Giant Foods, Best Buy, Circuit City, etc.........

We took the Metro to the city one day parking @ a King Street garage acroos the street from the Metro. We didn't get there in time to park @ the Metro parking area. It was $10 for the day for the garage. I would DEFINATELY go back to this property.

The only downside of the hotel to report is the location of our room. DO NOT get a room on the first floor ( we were in room 109) We were next to the laundry room, and excercise room. I sleep soundly, but, other family members commented that they were awoken by the sounds coming from the laundry room, and whirlpool, which was next door to our room. Parking is free at the hotel. We also drove into the city. Easy to get to King Street, (Leesburg Pike to 395) into the city. 15 minutes tops.

Great value for the money. Clean, comfortable, and convenient........

The hotel is clean, staff is nice and helpful, breakfast is adequate, standard for this chain of hotels.
Pool hours could be better.(11am to 9 pm). I understand the need for peace and quiet during the evening hours, but opening at 9 am would not bother anyone.
If you need to go by Metro, do not park at Pentagon City Mall, parking is $16 a day and a purchase at Macy would only give you a $2 discount.
Instead, ask the hotel staff for directions to Ballston Commons Mall, parking is maximum $8 a day and you walk a block to the Metro station via a covered bridge.
If you want to visit Washington National Cathedral, go there after 3.30pm and the outside ample parking is free. Why park in the pay Garage?
