“Brace yourself for a 5:30 p.m. start”
Reviewed September 3, 2013

Hank's is a fixture in Old Town, a dining destination 5 miles out of D.C. Short on seating, the King Street location makes it really easy to get to, taking either the Blue or Yellow Metro line to the King Street Metro Station, and then hopping on the free King Street Trolley, operated by the Alexandria DASH transit system. If you're there at 5:30 p.m. you'll get in. Once in, try the oysters in any configuration. Staff knows the sources for the day's offering, and locals know this from that. I love their small plate fried oysters, their lobster roll, and their bar.

“Loads of very good food, at a price”
Reviewed September 1, 2013

4 of us split almost everything we ordered, which was a LOT! Started with 6 types of oysters on the half-shell, most of which were wonderful. Everyone had a different "least favorite" so it comes down to palate. They allow substitutions of the sides for a $2 surcharge; with so many good-sounding items to choose from, we made lots of subs. We tried the oysters, fried Ipswich clams, steamed mussels, lobster roll, tuna carpaccio, roasted cauliflower with shallots, onion rings, sautéed farro and kale, collards, watermelon salad (feta/olives/arugula added), peach cobbler, various cocktails and beer. The standouts were the oysters, mussels, lobster, faro, and collards. That's an amazing number of standouts for one dinner! However, the Blackberry Fizz cocktail was so bad I didn't have but 2 swallows. The onion rings were anemically white and bland. The crust on the cobbler was horrible - pasty and grainy. We picked it off of the delicious, but too little, filling. I would definitely return, especially to score the raw oysters at Happy Hour. Paying less than half price for them would be great! Most of the entrée-sized items were in the high $20s. And $2.50 each for the oysters was a ridiculous price - even though the oysters were delish. It would have been nice to have a platter priced at a lesser point. (We would have ordered more.)

good and fresh seafood. The place is small but cozy, not cheap though. Try another place if you have young kids.

There are other places to get good oysters. Good wait staff, indifferent management.

Great place to go if money is burning a hole in your pocket.

“Loved it!”
Reviewed August 8, 2013

Went early on a Saturday around 5pm and only had to wait about 10 minutes. Had the table in the front bay window area, which was really great. The place is very small. Had a small plate of fried oysters which were delicous and roasted cauliflower which was good. Good service, good food, reasonably priced. recommend.
