“Great place to work.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 28, 2014

Needed an 'office' in the DC area to support some work, the Hampton gave me just what I wanted. Good sized twin room, decent desk with plenty of power outlets. Friendly, welcoming staff, clean and well looked after. Business Center equipped with USB driven printers. Outlook is a bit urban on one side, see photo, the other looks onto the river and the National Harbour. Access from Route 1 going from Alexandria was a bit of a puzzle, ended up going past and doing a U further down the road! Breakfast is adequate, the usual Hamptonesque fare of scrambled eggs, sausage, breads , bagels waffles etc while their propensity of not having to do any washing up afterwards is probably keeping the accounts of the US styrofoam plate industry in excellent health. There is little within walking distance, so lunch involved driving over to the nearby "National Harbor". With such a grand name, I was bemused to find a couple of short jetties and a poor imitation of the London Eye. However there were plenty of eateries to choose from. The jewel in the crown of this Hampton however, is their excellent shuttle services, one to the Metro stop and the other into the heart of Alexandria Old Town with its plethora of restaurants . The buses run 24 hours, and the desk staff are all too pleased to tell you when the next one is due, apparently an average wait of 10 minutes is the norm. During my two night stay the Hotel was laden with families on vacation, however, quiet enough during the night. The complimentary WiFi was excellent during the day but was noticeably slower in the evenings. Would definitely stay again.

Our family stayed 4 nights while visiting DC. We always choose Hampton and this is why! Great rooms, nice pool which actually had a lifeguard which was nice. Free shuttle to the train station which was a mile away and the drivers were excellent. They not only drove you but they gave advice on using the Metro and places to go while visiting. It was an all around great stay. Would definitely recommend this Hampton. We were actually impressed with the cleanliness of DC as a whole and the friendliness of the workers and the citizens. Very impressed by the city.

We stayed three nights here. Had a very good experience. When we checked in on a Saturday night, it was quite noisy and busy in the lobby. However, once we got to our room (on the fifth floor), it was very quiet. Room was large and updated with great queen beds. Very clean. Housekeeping did a nice job! Friendly service. Breakfast area was busy as expected. Shuttle drivers were very accommodating. Never waited more than ten minutes for them to arrive. Free breakfast, parking, wifi, and free shuttles to metro and Old Town Alexandria. It's a great value for families. We didn't use the outdoor pool, but looked like the kids were enjoying it!

I checked in on a Monday for a reserved two night stay.
On the second night around 9 pm an individual unlocked my door and was startled by the bar lock .
I rand the front desk to ask why they sold my room to someone else Abe they told me I checked out earlier that day !? Yes , NO ..... No I did not thus I am in the room .
Hotel was crazy busy and hallways were noisy all night .
Other than the Bizarre experience hotel was noisy and overpriced for the experience. I will not be back

We chose this hotel after deciding to stay in Alexandria rather than DC itself. The rate was good, and we liked the idea of having a complimentary shuttle to Old Town and the metro. Really saved us a headache in terms of parking and traffic. We like Hampton Inns, since you typically know what to expect when you check in.

We checked in with ease, and used the pool with our two young children. Things seemed to be going well. We took the shuttle to Old Town - very easy to use and we had no issues with it. You simply go to the front desk and ask for the service. The longest time we waited was about 5 minutes. We arrived back that evening to find out our room was amongst a large college group. They were loud and I had to call the desk several times. I was assured it would not be an issue the next evening, as they were checking out. Trying to drag two tired kids around the city due to lack of sleep was not pleasant. We were up listening to slamming doors, knocks (even on our door) loud talking out our door, etc. Needless to say, we were disappointed about how the stay had taken a turn.

Breakfast was very, very busy. There were reunion groups, our noisy college friends and families, all clambering for the small area. For the size of the property, the food area is way too small. Be ready to deal with lines and crowds.

Our second night was just as noisy. Had I known that the group was not checking out, I would have asked for a room change....but I was told otherwise. I did speak to the manager upon checkout, and she was understanding and did what she could to make amends.

The room itself is more of an old style Hampton, and our room was a bit musty, but nothing major wrong. Elevator service was slow at peak times. Bottom line....be prepared for crowds. Not a quiet, laid back Hampton you may have slept in before.

Thank you very much for taking the time to write a review of your recent stay. I am sorry that you did not completly enjoy your visit with us. This hotel is larger than your typical Hampton Inn and our breakfast area is much larger as well. Our front office staff makes every effort to assign groups together and to keep individuals in other areas, however, this is not always possible. Your comments will be shared with the rest of the staff in order for us to make changes for the future. Please consider staying with us if your travels bring back to the Alexandria area.

I have had great experiences with Hampton Inns, but the bed was way too hard and the pillows way too mushy. We got very little sleep. This made touring the D.C. area a grumpy experience. The breakfast was very good, and all else was great. The staff was extremely helpful.

Ok hotel for the low prices you pay for. Full of rude tourists clamoring for the so-so breakfast. On a major highway, so nothing is close by. If you don't arrive by car, you are at the mercy of the free shuttle or can call a cab. So if you need to be somewhere at a certain time plan ahead! Vans only like to go to EITHER old town OR the metro station. So off goes the van with 2 people in it to the metro while 1 person waits for it to get back to take them to old town. Making a big circle does not occur to most of the drivers. Anyway, if you value your time more than a few extra dollars, stay at a hotel near a metro. If you arrive by car, you can drive to and park at the closest metro station. Parking (pay and free) in Old Town is plentiful as well.

Room Tip: If you plan to utilize the pool, bring your own beach towels, or from the room. The pool towels wer...
