1st stay @ Holiday Inn. Hotel gets a thumbs up for clean bedding and firm mattres. Bathroom clean as well. You can actually smell a laundry detergent scent on towels so you know things have been cleaned. Thumbs down for cosmetics. Some peeling wallpaper, light stains on carpet, lampshade. Furniture a little beat up. The most important thing is the room is clean. I am willing to put up with some age as long as things are clean. That is much more important. I also only payed $50.00 for the room thru priceline bid so overall I am happy. Would stay here again for a short stay as long as the price is right. Priceline has this hotel as 3.5 stars which it defintely is not. Parking is also an additional $15.00 with no security. Security could be an issue here from what I see. Happy Travels

This hotel really needs to be refurbished, renovated and renewed. For $179 a night, it was a very poor value. My room air conditioner / heater was the through the wall type like in cheaper motels. Ventilation was OK but the unit was noisy. The bathroom still had the original 1960's fixtures and needed to be replaced. It couldn't be clean because of it. The rug in my room had stains and needed a cleaning.

There is free parking on the street but pay for protected parking - the neighborhood isn't the best.

Self serve coffee was in the lobby but was a dollar! The "business center" was a cramped closet and charged $1.49 per minute for the internet and 50 cents to print a page.

Very poor value. Neighborhood was below "middle class" if you know what I mean. Crime Stopper signs on telephone poles. I recommend that you do not go out for a stroll in the evening.

I usually stay at Holiday Inn's when I travel. I stayed at this one for a conference and paid $169 per night and was glad to leave. The property is run down and shabby. My room had carpet stains and needed new furniture. Bathroom needed to be refurbished. I was surprised that Holiday Inn allowed this property to be part of their group.

Our travel manager booked the wrong HI. I wanted the HI Old Town where I stayed before. Maybe I have review for that (six years ago?). Anyway, the Historic one is just that, historic... should be demolished. The only part that is promising is when you walk it... it is nicely done, and gets your hopes up for the rooms upstairs....
But, as soon as you get in the elevator, you notice it is not up to par. The elavator needs to be replaced. Slow, old, noisy and you are not sure if it's going to make it. Hall ways are worn. Rooms are worn out also. Bedding was standard HI and was OK.
If you have to stay in Alexandria, there are dozens of hotels to choose from that is much better. The HI Select - Old Town for one, if you want to remain in the HI group. This one is not recommended .

Our mistake in that we totally forgot about kids group tours during the month of June. Doors constantly slamming, lots of wall pounding, yelling and screaming down the hallways at all hours - just the same sort of thing I did at their age - despite the trip adult "chaperones".

Knowing this, it would seem the hotel staff would be somewhat empathetic to those traveling sans children and provide some sort of buffer between adult couples and four kids to a room. However, I do realize that these things do happen and is sometimes out of the hotel's control.

But even worse yet was getting a non-smoking room (even marked on the door as "non smoking"), then entering & finding it totally showing evidence of smoking use, including tobacco odor, ashtrays and matches in the room, and cigarette burns in the furniture. Hotel staff response was simply, "sorry, but it's all we got".

Perhaps it's just what I've been very fortunately accustomed to, but in my past experiences where this has happened in that the hotel cannot provide a non-smoking room as reserved, then, at a minimum, they went and found a non-smoking room at another establishment immediately. Nothing even remotely close to this was offered by the staff here. Front desk staff simply blamed it on housekeeping for allowing smoking use in that particular non-smoking room.

This is just pretty much an older, average Holiday Inn. I make 2-3 trips a year to Alexandria for business and usually stay across the street at the Best Western for which I have also written a review) but wanted to try something different.

The rooms are large, average cleanliness and condition for the age.

Didn't use the pool or esxercise facilities although they looked OK.

Staff is often interested in talking with themselves rather than helping customers. Depending on who you deal with, you might get great service or indifference.

The shuttle also passed right by me without stopping; had to wait another 30-45 minutes for another one.
Room service was good. The in-room internet connection was very cantankerous; worked when it wanted to and was slow when it did.

Got a great rate using the Entertainment Card, so can't complain too much considering the prices in the area.

Definitely run down a little. But giant rooms compared to other places. Free shuttle to airport / Metro Station. Free wireless internet in lobby. Buffet lunch 9.95 is OK. The problem is that EVERYTHING in DC is expensive. So this is one of the cheaper places. If you miss the last shuttle back to the hotel at night you have to pay 12 taxi fare. Could use some renovation. Friendly staff. Directly across street from Giant brand supermarket. Supermarket closes at 11pm. Yellow metro line is faster route into DC than blue line. Plan on 20 minute ride into DC on metro for $1.65 peak or $1.35 off peak times. Nothing to write home about, other than really large rooms compared to many hotels.
