“Great BBQ Chicken”
Reviewed April 27, 2013

Have dined here three times in the last two weeks. Ordered the chicken twice and the fajitas once. The chicken is delicious as are the accompaniments. The fries are also fantastic. The fajitas were a little overcooked but I am giving this place 5 starts because of the excellent chicken and good value.

“My dad's favorite place to go”
Reviewed December 5, 2012

Pollo Ranchero was my dad's favorite place to go.. he loved the burritos and we always looked forward to taking him here. The wait staff always remembered him and my mom, and when my dad was declining in health, always asked after him. For that alone I would rate this place as wonderful, since you don't get that much around the DC area.

But the food is also very good. The burritos are good, but I really like the Peruvian chicken with that great green and yellow sauce. Portions are generous, and meals are made fresh to order. The place is always hopping as well, with many diners sitting down, and even more people coming in to get the chicken carryout.

I recommend this place for a casial lunch or dinner out with friends and family.

“Ok food”
Reviewed September 9, 2012 via mobile

We went for the chicken. Food is average and the place seems to be owned by Chinese family but Spanish cook. It is your average spanish food and a fair value for the plate size.

“A local favorite! Eat in or Take Out”
Reviewed April 8, 2012

El Pollo Ranchero is delicious and authentic. It is a mix of El Salvadorean, Peruvian, and Tex-Mex cuisine. All of the wait staff and cooks speak Spanish, the servers also speak English very well.

I have been going to this restaurant for almost 10 years and it has always been fabulous. You get free chips and salsa (as much as you want) and the food is priced well. The main dishes are pretty standard Tex-Mex fare, but the real reason to eat here is:

1. Peruvian chicken - roasted on a spit with special herbs. Amazing
2. Fried Yucca - equally delicious. make sure you try it with the yellow sauce
3. Papusas - thick tortillas stuffed with cheese, beans or a mixture
4. Jugo de ensalada - A fruit juice with diced fruit in it (a mixture between apple and other fruits)

We usually get some mixture of those dishes. However, we often go just to get a few papusas and a drink. You really must try the chicken if you haven't had Peruvian chicken before.

They usually play Latino music in the background and there are two TVs that play local news in Spanish or music videos. As such, this is not a fancy restaurant - it is a place to go with friends or family. When you go make sure you have time; the service can be slow when it is crowded, but that is a cultural thing. Just make sure when you go that you realize this is a REAL Latino restaurant - not an Americanized version where the service is fast and the food reheated. It speaks for itself that this restaurant is usually full of native Spanish speakers from Central America.
