Afton is as good a compliment to Charlottesville as it gets. For beautiful scenery, history, wine lovers, travel fanatics, skiers, hikers, you name it. Afton Mountain Bed and Breakfast is a necessary part if you intend to visit.

We were there during a snowstorm, and while the roads in central Virginia were tough to drive, the Inn experienced great VDOT service, and Dan Ingraham didn't hesitate to break out the shovel.

Our stay was in their feature room, and the amenities were excellent, the bed quite perfect for snuggling, and the breakfasts were phenomenal. The one issue that did come up for us dealt with the hot tub, though it was very quiet and very comfortable (with no hot water issues!), the water itself is well-water, and at points, a brownish film gathered in certain places and bubbles, leaving us with an unsure feeling about it.

Just the same, the upkeep of this home was wonderful, and the Ingrahams were the most accomodating hosts you could ask for. I recommend it if you are looking for a good location within a stone's throw of Skyline Drive, Charlottesville, and Staunton, and it's well enough in the valley to avoid the winter fog.

A+

A relaxing weekend at a B&B was a Christmas gift from my wife. She gave me a few suggestions in the gift box...one of which was Afton Mountain B & B. After much research I decided on Afton Mountain due to its value, location and the personal reviews at this website. We were not disappointed. The innkeepers, Dan and Orquida Ingraham, are very personable and hospitable hosts. They always seemed to be there and knew what you needed before you asked but were not intrusive. Orquida met us a the front door with a smile, gave us a tour of her house and helped carry our luggage to our room (Jefferson). I anxiously anticipated the homemade cookies and I was not disappointed. Orquida cooks them to perfection and they are available every afternoon. We had a choice of chocolate chip oatmeal and molasses ginger snap. The house was immaculate (not a sign of dust or dirt anywhere) and was very comfortable & relaxing at the same time. In addition to the cookies each guest is provided access to water, coffee, tea, soft drinks, spiced cider and hot chocolate. The rooms were tastefully decorated, spacious and comfortable. All rooms have a private bath, CD player, radio and alarm clock. The purpose of our trip was relaxation. Friday night we chose to eat at a local Italian restaurant called D'Ambola's only one mile down the road. The food was excellent in a family atmosphere. Dan and Orquida have a list of local restaurants, sample menu's and ratings from previous guests. On Saturday we ventured into Charlottesville to do some shopping and went to four wineries on our way back to the B&B. We love good wine and ended up purchasing 1.5 cases of white wine. It was no problem to store the wine in the house to keep it at room temperature. On Saturday night we chose the Three Notch'd Grille in Crozet for dinner. This is a 5 star restaurant in the middle of seemingly nowhere. You will not be disappointed with the food, service or atmosphere. Coffee was brewed fresh each morning and available between 7:15 and 7:30. Breakfast each morning was a delicious treat. Saturday morning we had fruit parfait, pumpkin waffles and bacon. Sunday morning we had peaches, banana pancakes and sausage. Since this was a treat I allowed myself to have seconds at breakfast. There was always plenty of food and everything was hot off the stove. If you are looking for an exceptional value, great food and fantastic hosts this is the B&B for you. Dan and Orquida will welcome you into your home and you will be talking to them as if you had known them for years and years. I was pleased to see them calling everyone by their first name all of the time. You don't get that kind of personal service from a national hotel chain. One more note...they have a sweet and well-behaved dog named Bailey. She stays in her part of the house and does not go in the part of the house with the guest rooms. Bailey sweetly insists that you say hello to her everytime you come in the house or come down for breakfast. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and highly recommend this B&B.

This Bed and Breakfast is superb! They are hospitable people and provide their guests with anything they need (i.e. wine glasses, corkscrews, hair dryers). The hallway has a water cooler to pour yourself spring water at any time of the night or day, or you can get boiling hot water for the various teas outside your bedroom door). Fresh cookies daily, baked to perfection.
The surrounding area is pretty easy to navigate after a day, however, they were happy to provide maps to any nearby area. Their is a wonderful Italian restaurant one mile away (D'Ambola's) that we would highly reccommend. My girlfriend and I were happily engaged at Afton B&B, and John and Orquita were always around for anything we needed, but were not intrusive at all. Great place to get away, can't wait to return!

Our family rented the entire Inn for the weekend. The rooms were very comfortable and nicely decorated. The inn keepers were pleasant but not overly friendly.Breakfast each morning was delicious and presented very nicely. Homemade cookies were available throughout the day- a nice treat. I feel certain we would stay there again if the situation comes up.

We thoroughly enjoyed our two night (too short) stay at the Afton Mountain B&B. The price was affordable, the decor was delightful and our hosts were charming. Each morning we were served a delicious homemade breakfast in an elegantly appointed dining room. (Note: the decor and rooms are even more beautiful than they look online.) Evenings were rounded out with homemade cookies and hot drinks on the sideboard just outside our room. Many other touches often not found at much more expensive B&B's abounded. Cleanliness and comfort were given great attention by the hosts. Highly recommended and we certainly hope to return ourselves as soon as possible.

The location and amenities of this bed and breakfast are fantastic. If you are interested in outdoor activities (skiing, hiking) or enjoying the area wineries, this is an excellent base location. The owners also do a nice job of taking care of little details to make your stay more enjoyable...cookies outside of your room, a plethora of drinks and teas, etc.
