Copper Lantern Boutique Inn
Ranked #1 of 16 Abingdon B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 28, 2012

My husband and I along were fortunate to book at the Copper Lantern. We found the Inn to be a perfect location for launching on the Virginia Creeper trail and be within walking distance to most of the attractions of Abingdon. The common areas and porches were tastefully decorated but comfortable and inviting. Our suite was private and restful. Breakfasts were beyond the typical fare and innovatively tasty. Betty and Kimberly took great care of us, attentive but not hovering. We look forward to returning in the future.

My husband and I stayed at the Copper Lantern during Emory & Henry College's Homecoming weekend. It was a wonderful bed & breakfast with great hostesses! Kim and her mom treated us with wine every evening and great gourmet breakfasts every morning. Kim is a great cook and breakfast is definitely not to be missed! She was so thoughtful to even make a chocolate cake because it was the birthday of another guest. The house itself was very inviting and extremely cozy, we loved "our home" for the weekend. The bedrooms are beautiful and the beds and linens are very comfortable. The house is full of family pictures and heirlooms, so you feel and are treated like you are staying with family or great friends. Kim and her mom are so wonderful and the house was so inviting that my husband I ended up accidentally napping in one of the great sitting rooms for 45 minutes!

Location in downtown Abingdon is ideal, as great restaurants, the Creeper Trail and shopping were all just a short walk away. The ladies assisted in making dinner reservations and pointing out all the most-dos in Abingdon. Kim and Betty want nothing more than for their guests to feel right at home and to have a refreshing and relaxing visit during their time at the Copper Lantern. Having stayed in various hotels/motels in the Abingdon area before, I know we have found our "go to place to stay" for all future visits.

Room Tip: You can't go wrong with any of the rooms!

My husband and I stayed for a weekend get-away (just in time to celebrate my 30th birthday!) Since it was a surprise weekend--my husband was able to do all the arrangements with the help of our beautiful hosts! They booked and reserved everything for us, from the tastiest restaurants at night all the way to front row tickets for a play at the Barter! All we had to do was show up, and the rest was golden! Our hosts went above and beyond to make sure we had whatever we needed (including one of the best birthday cakes I've ever tasted!)

They met us with a glass of wine on the porch, where we were able to relax and get to know the other guests for the weekend. The house was warm and cozy, with plenty of rooms to relax, read, & sit by the fire with a blanket (perfect for a fall day!) This was exactly what we needed! The rooms were beautiful, and so so comfortable. Plenty of space for all couples that were staying over the weekend, which was great!! And yes...the breakfasts were out of this world fantastic!

We're planning our next visit for the spring already!!! We fell head over heals in love with the Copper Lantern Inn---and I believe this place to be a true gem for Abingdon, VA! We highly recommend a weekend with these lovely hosts!!

Room Tip: All rooms were extremely comfortable!

From Lori and Rick A.
We recently spent the weekend at Copper Lantern Inn for our 27th anniversary. Kim and her mom and dad were attentive to every detail.
The inn itself is stunning and Kim has every room filled with an eclectic and homey mix of antiques and family artifacts. It just invites looking around and Kim is happy to share the stories. Each bedroom is made up with fine linens. I could barely get out of bed they were so comfortable. But we didn't want to miss the scrumptious breakfasts Kim prepared for us each morning. She has a knack for combining ingredients and seasoning that made every breakfast an event!
We shared great conversation with our fellow guests and our innkeepers each morning. Afternoons found my husband and I on the big front porch cozying up together with a glass of wine and even sharing a nap it was so relaxing. Kim and her mom were happy to recommend restaurants, make reservations, give directions, even got us theater tickets for a sold out show at the Barter Theater. Abingdon is a bustling little town with lots of history. It was fun walking along the brick sidewalks looking at all the old buildings. The virginia creeper trail is close by for those who want to walk or bike.
These folks are so gracious, we felt like we were staying with old friends. They happily did everything they could to make us feel special. Our compliments and thanks were answered with sincere appreciation. As Betty said, "we just want to love and take care of you". And they really did!

We recently had a flying one night visit to the Copper Lantern Inn but thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it - I doubt that you could find a warmer welcome in Virginia! From the moment we arrived to the time we left Kimberley and Betty did all they could to make our stay in Abingdon as good as it could be. When we booked they had asked whether we would like a table booked at a local restaurant or tickets for the Barter Theatre and arranged all this for us. Kimberley's food is outstanding we had the most amazing breakfast served to us and it was such a generous portion that lunch was definitely not an option. The Inn itself is lovingly created, very comfortable and unique, it was a pleasure to stay there. When we left we felt that we had known Kim and Betty for a long time and that we were leaving friends behind.

All the other reviews say it...the beds were so comfortable I didn't want to get up...the food? Kim is a gourmet cook and everything she cooked was fabulous. The Inn itself was gracious and you just felt surrounded with comfort. Both Betty and Kim are the most lovely of Inn Keepers and with sweet personalities and make you feel at home from the very first minute you arrive. The Inn is full of beautiful antiques and many historic facts. Whether you want to walk everywhere and see the city or just rest (and eat) like I did, the Copper Lantern Inn is surely the best place to be.

Room Tip: The George Washington Suite has a King Size Adjustable bed which is unique to that room I believe.

Lovely weekend getaway. Incredibly gracious hospitality from Betty and Kimberly (who is also a fabulous cook). I've never had such outstanding cuisine at an Inn. We were made to feel like family and were so nurtured that it felt like a spiritual retreat. Their front porch is a southern girl's dream where I'd relax each morning with coffee and a good book. Great beds and pillows which meant a great night's sleep! An easy walk to everything, especially the bike shop; the Virginia Creeper trail is all downhill and amazing, even in the rain. :-)
