Copper Lantern Boutique Inn
Ranked #1 of 16 Abingdon B&B and Inns
Reviewed October 1, 2012

From Lori and Rick A.
We recently spent the weekend at Copper Lantern Inn for our 27th anniversary. Kim and her mom and dad were attentive to every detail.
The inn itself is stunning and Kim has every room filled with an eclectic and homey mix of antiques and family artifacts. It just invites looking around and Kim is happy to share the stories. Each bedroom is made up with fine linens. I could barely get out of bed they were so comfortable. But we didn't want to miss the scrumptious breakfasts Kim prepared for us each morning. She has a knack for combining ingredients and seasoning that made every breakfast an event!
We shared great conversation with our fellow guests and our innkeepers each morning. Afternoons found my husband and I on the big front porch cozying up together with a glass of wine and even sharing a nap it was so relaxing. Kim and her mom were happy to recommend restaurants, make reservations, give directions, even got us theater tickets for a sold out show at the Barter Theater. Abingdon is a bustling little town with lots of history. It was fun walking along the brick sidewalks looking at all the old buildings. The virginia creeper trail is close by for those who want to walk or bike.
These folks are so gracious, we felt like we were staying with old friends. They happily did everything they could to make us feel special. Our compliments and thanks were answered with sincere appreciation. As Betty said, "we just want to love and take care of you". And they really did!

Room Tip: Just check out the website, each room is described in detail. We stayed in the first floor room, an...

We recently had a flying one night visit to the Copper Lantern Inn but thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it - I doubt that you could find a warmer welcome in Virginia! From the moment we arrived to the time we left Kimberley and Betty did all they could to make our stay in Abingdon as good as it could be. When we booked they had asked whether we would like a table booked at a local restaurant or tickets for the Barter Theatre and arranged all this for us. Kimberley's food is outstanding we had the most amazing breakfast served to us and it was such a generous portion that lunch was definitely not an option. The Inn itself is lovingly created, very comfortable and unique, it was a pleasure to stay there. When we left we felt that we had known Kim and Betty for a long time and that we were leaving friends behind.

All the other reviews say it...the beds were so comfortable I didn't want to get up...the food? Kim is a gourmet cook and everything she cooked was fabulous. The Inn itself was gracious and you just felt surrounded with comfort. Both Betty and Kim are the most lovely of Inn Keepers and with sweet personalities and make you feel at home from the very first minute you arrive. The Inn is full of beautiful antiques and many historic facts. Whether you want to walk everywhere and see the city or just rest (and eat) like I did, the Copper Lantern Inn is surely the best place to be.

Room Tip: The George Washington Suite has a King Size Adjustable bed which is unique to that room I believe.

Lovely weekend getaway. Incredibly gracious hospitality from Betty and Kimberly (who is also a fabulous cook). I've never had such outstanding cuisine at an Inn. We were made to feel like family and were so nurtured that it felt like a spiritual retreat. Their front porch is a southern girl's dream where I'd relax each morning with coffee and a good book. Great beds and pillows which meant a great night's sleep! An easy walk to everything, especially the bike shop; the Virginia Creeper trail is all downhill and amazing, even in the rain. :-)

To celebrate my 60th birthday, long-time friends booked a weekend at the Copper Lantern as a gathering place. We were treated with professional courtesy...but, also, warm Southern "hospitality"! Kimberly whipped up delicious meals and appetizers for all....while Betty graciously addressed all other needs and wishes. The Inn is centrally located and is within e-z walking distance to the Barter Theatre and other historic sites in this quaint town. Will definitely return. Thanx Kim, Betty and pups.

What a wonderful way to spend the weekend. The Inn is very well located, beautifully furnished and completely deluxe. The bed was the most comfortable I have ever slept in anywhere! Kimberly and Betty are incredibly hospitable and go all out to help their guests relax and enjoy. I must also comment that I truly believe Kimberly possesses a special gift when it comes to food, The appetizers, desserts and breakfasts were magnificent. The blend of flavors that she pairs in her food were a delight for the palate. We will recommend this Inn and hope to stay there again ourselves!
