“Beer Taste on a Champagne Budget. Would not recommend!”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 19, 2009

No Misprint here. From almost the beginning, this hotel proved disappointing for the money. My reservation made with the owner, Sumure, was not kept, as there was a problem with my credit card. I was not called concerning it to reserve the room with another method. Totally not professional. Add to that, there were absolutely no other rooms in Abingdon because of a softball tournament. Luckily, I was able to rent the LAST room via another payment method. In the room...there were no towels, no TV remote, and someone had left a used coffee cup on the office desk. My 10AM wake-up call never happened, as I was awake then. The hot tub was very small and would definitely not recommend for anyone to be romantic in. It was shaped like a "T", where 3 people could get in it and all would have to share the space in the middle for their feet and legs. This in my opinion is not even good for 2 people, unless you are into playing footsies! The jets had no force at all to them and air bubbles were non-existing. The air flow control was inoperative as well. Looking from outside the tub, you would have a hard time determining if the tub was on or off. On a positive note, the staff was extremely courtesy and helpful. Next time I might stay at the Motel 6. At least then, I will be getting what I paid for and expected.

We pay extra to avoid a mess. Comfort Suites are usually nice and clean. When we arrived my ten year old daughter got in the shower.

*My wife noticed 3 dirty wash clothes hanging over the shower curtain.
*Beds were made up perfectly. My five year old hopped in his bed. Pulled back our sheets
*Sheets had SEMEN on them. Beds made up, but dirty sheets not changed! GROSS and thanks for the STD exposure!!
*After front desks moved us, our daughter told us there was dirty water standing in tub that she drained out for her shower in the first room. No telling what she was exposed to (DISGUSTING).
*The cleaning staff searched US out during breakfast. THEY TOLD US THAT THEY WERE NOT PERFECT and hoped this didn't keep us from returning. This is in very bad taste and very unprofessional.
*Front desk given full report on check out and doesn't even offer an I'm sorry.
*Corporate contacted and told that I pay extra to avoid such things (I expected a refund). Sorry letter sent from corporate.

Stay away from this place. They are not clean and don't take ownership of problems in an effort to make them right.

By the way: no sweet donuts, Danishes or yogurt on breakfast bar.

This was our last stop on our cross-country trip and it was a good one! The desk clerk, Mark, was very friendly. The hotel looked very new.

The room had a nice bench just inside the door (where I placed a suitcase). It also had two closets (one was open and one had doors). The bathroom had a nice granite counter and great water pressure.

There was a huge breakfast room with a fireplace and couch.

I would gladly go here again!

Ok - first let me say - this is a budget hotel chain ---but I've stayed at many over the years and this one is by far above standard. Recently remodeled and smoke-free, it was clean, cheerful and well staffed. The one lone kitchen attendant managed to keep coffee, juice, milk, waffle mix, etc. well stocked even when the hotel was at full occupancy. Not only that - she was quite pleasant and professional. Front desk was helpful too. Even though the hotel was full - youth groups and adults...it was very quiet (our room was away from the registration desk and elevators).
WORD OF WARNING
We needed a room with two beds and a sleeper sofa for our two tall teen sons and younger daughter. The sofa beds in both our rooms were broken but luckily we were able to switch rooms to get a functioning sofa bed. If you need the sofa bed (pretty lumpy mattress), call ahead and have them check your assigned room FIRST. If the hotel is booked - you will not be able to switch around.

  • Liked — good price for accomodations and breakfast
  • Disliked — broken sofa bed in two rooms

We stayed here in late June on our way to Arizona from NJ and on our way back. We really liked our stay here. Great staff. Great service. Breakfast at these properties are always wonderful. Room was clean. Great stay!

Stayed on a weekend in January traveling through town.
We have stayed at other Comfort Suites and this one was slightly disappointing.
This is an older hotel that appears to have been renovated at some point. The rooms are now smoke-free, but ours did have a stale odor that it had been smoked in a some point. Beyond that, the suite was smaller than other CS hotels we stayed in. Bedding was very average. Some of the other CS hotels have upgraded bedding - this one did not.
Hot breakfast and staff were OK as well, but everything seemed to be just a notch below what we're usually used to in this chain.

  • Liked — Location is convenient to I-81
  • Disliked — Older rooms need another updating

A good value for the price...don't expect anything fancy.

PROS: Good price...convenient parking.

CONS: The pool and spa, although nicely sized for a facility of this size, were poorly maintained. There were old band-aids on the edge of
the far side of the pool for the two days we were there...they were obviously there for some time before we got there. Pretty gross...it would have taken one minute to go through with a broom on a daily basis. Also, the continental breakfast is nothing to write home about...I'm sick of hotels calling the breakfast a "hot breakfast" because they put out a self service waffle iron.

  • Liked — price
  • Disliked — pool cleanliness
