On a business trip - Cindy and Jimmy were so friendly and the breakfast was amazing. Sorry we had such a short trip but really enjoyed everything. Hope to come back and stay longer and see more of the farm and animals.

My wife and I were on our way from Hampton, VA to Bowling Green, KY for a Corvette rally trip and needed a half way point to spend the night. Cindy was even gracious enough to make dinner reservations for us in town. The Inn was absolutely wonderful, had a great nights rest, and what a wonderful breakfast. I told Cindy we needed to invite some others in to share the wonderful meal.

We agree with the previous reviewers regarding the open friendliness, clean and spacious rooms, terrific fresh made/baked breakfast food, homemade cookies and cake. A very good selection of teas and access to a Keurig coffeemaker are available all the time. There is nothing short of beyond expectations to say about the hospitality and comfort of this B & B.

Our stay was in the Meadows suite, consisting of a big bedroom with ample clothing, suitcase, whatever storage, a door to the nice sun room that also houses a mini-fridge, a two room bathroom right outside the bedroom door (one with shower/hot tub and sink; one with sink and toilet), full use of the big living room and full use of the big back porch. The furnishings and linens were quite nice; the bed comfortable; the hot tub worked well and was a treat to have at the end of days of long bike rides. A big selection of body washes, shampoos, body lotion are supplied on a set of shelves outside the bathrooms. The owners appear to have taken a lot of time to envision what things their guests would like to have.

The Virginia Creeper Trailhead at Abingdon can be seen from the house. The drive to Main Street takes less than a minute. The road is precarious to walk along because there are no sidewalks until reaching the VA Creeper Trailhead, but it's not impossible.

In the near future, Cindy and Jimmy plan to add en suite bathrooms to two of the main floor bedrooms, which will replace the sun room but provide provide private bathrooms. Cindy showed us the suite of rooms on the lower level --- 2 Bedrooms, Shower, Living room, full kitchen, big porch. These rooms look out over the waterfall at the edge of the pond and over the meadow where their horses graze and the hillside meadow of a farm where the cows and their babies roam and play. The lower level rooms are as nicely outfitted as the main floor.

We would definitely recommend this B & B for individuals as well as groups.

Do yourself a favor and experience all that Black's Fort Inn has to offer...it will be a once in a lifetime experience you will never forget! In all of our extensive travels we have never found such a "jewel" which combines every element of the perfect Inn. The Pattersons are amazing people who have never met a stranger...they made us feel as if we had been best friends for years. Their hospitality, kindness & love are truly genuine and infectious. The grounds (9 acres) are beautiful and spotted with LIVE animals (horses, ducks, cats & dog) just waiting for a friendly petting or a "herbal" treat...overseen by Ms. Cindy of course. A comfortable "farm" even for us city folks:) Our stay at Black's Fort Inn was a fairy-tale dream we will never forget and will visit over & over again!

Great weekend stay with the Pattersons.
Very clean and large but cozy rooms.
Food was incredible and the service was first class.
Hope to make this a yearly stop over.
Thanks for a pleasant, memorable weekend.

I always read reviews where people say they "felt they knew the innkeepers their whole lives," and I have never experienced that until our stay at Black's Fort Inn this week.

Cindy and Jimmy Patterson were so personable and homey from the first minute in the door. Their home is welcoming, and the Waterfall Suite was so well-appointed and secluded. Coffee, cookies and bottled water awaited us, and the plush towels and walk-in shower helped us feel so spoiled. If it hadn't have been raining, we could have walked to dinner and the Barter Theatre. We were that close.

Cindy was more than happy to introduce us to her beautiful Gypsy horses, and her love for her animals was truly heartwarming. It was so much fun to wake up to the gentle whinnying in the pasture outside the porch. We look forward to returning and bringing our 11-year-old so she can meet the horses too. This morning, we rocked on the upper porch as we waited for breakfast, and were entertained by groundhogs in the field, cattle across the creek, horses in the pasture, and ducks and Canada Geese in the pond. So relaxing and so peaceful.

I can't say enough about the breakfasts and delicious treats Cindy prepared for us. On Day One, we had a souffle with fresh veggies from the garden, accompanied by bacon, toast, and a fabulous cream cheese peach tart. This morning, she served us a tenderloin hash with pork tenderloin, potatoes, fresh garden peppers and onions and cheese. She also prepared homemade biscuits, tenderloin gravy, and homemade triple-berry jam. Scrambled eggs rounded out the very generous country breakfast. She even sent us on our way with chocolate-amaretto cupcakes, and some peach tart from yesterday!

We can't say enough about our experience at Black's Fort Inn. We want to return and encourage everyone to go as well!

Room Tip: Try the Waterfall Suite! WOW!

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Black's Fort Inn is truly a very unique Bed & Breakfast. Our property looks as if we are out in the country but we are right in the middle of town situated on nine acres with sculpted hills, lots of trees and rolling hills. We are able to provide our guests with privacy as most of our Bed & Breakfast is designed for that purpose. Our pond is nearly an acre and has a waterfall where the water cascades down over the rocks makes the most soothing, relaxing sound, creating one of the most peaceful settings in the world. The outdoor balcony is very spacious and inviting overlooks our farm, pond and waterfall. The pond also serves as a habitat for several species of wild fowl and if you can relax long enough you can see the Canadian Geese fly in and land on the pond for their rest before leaving the next morning. Our outdoor balcony is very spacious and inviting. It overlooks our farm, pond and the lovely waterfall. We have a second porch that is equally spacious including a grape arbor that winds up at a cozy covered porch with the perfect view of our waterfall. Our guests tell us how peaceful and beautiful our property is.I love to cook for all of our guests and one of my most famous & favorite breakfast dishes requested is our "Cat Head" Biscuits & Gravy.Such wonderful memories are made here, and we make so many nice friends. All of the priceless memories we have of each of our guests make us so happy that we can share our beautiful place with our wonderful guests. ... more   less
