My friend had stayed at the Martha many times. As a gift for my birthday, we spent 2 nights there. The hotel is extremely beautiful! Many antique pieces mixed with a newly renovated building. The service of all the staff that we encountered was first rate. The beds and linens were very nice. The bathroom was spotless. We ate dinner one night at Sisters and it was very good.We had the continental breakfast which was fresh fruit and pastry. There were complimentary snacks and bottled water and coffee in the room.(suite has mini frig) The indoor pool is nice and the outdoor hottub is perfectly situated near a fire pit. The Inn is in the downtown area and within an easy stroll to many shops and other dining choices. My favorite part of our stay had to be sitting on the large front porch in the beautiful wicker chairs sipping a very nice glass of port and chatting with other guests. I must also say that in every shop, restaurant, and shopping facility we met the friendliest and kindest people I have ever met. A beautiful Inn and a beautiful stay.

Room Tip: there are full suites and double bed rooms-suites are a bit pricey.

My wife and I spent a night there. Staff was most friendly and helpful. Room was well appointed and clean. Pool, hot tub, fire pit were also very nice. We had coffee on the wonderful porch. We went to the Barter Theater (highly Recommended) and were able to walk there and back. Right across the street. It's not inexpensive but well worth the splurge. We'll come again for a night when back in the area.

Recently celebrated my daughter's birthday at The Martha Washington Inn in Abingdon,VA. We spent a heavenly day in the spa( massage, facial manicure, pedicure and shampoo). From the moment we arrived, we could not have been treated better. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We had dinner in The Sister's Grill and it was great. We then crossed the street to visit The Barter Theater for a show. This is a trip that I wish every woman could make. The rooms are very quaint. The only criticism was the lighting was very dim and no good place to apply makeup;however, everything else more that made up for this inconvenience.Looking forward to going back.

We were there overnight on business. The plan was to have dinner after we finished our work, unfortunately we didn't finish until after their restaurant closed. We dined on munchies from Kroger along with a bottle of wine. Loved the historical setting and the beautiful front porch! We really enjoyed Abingdon, we will return when we can have the chance to enjoy the MW.

We were in Abingdon to do the Creeper Trail bike ride, and spent our first night at a chain hotel, but after stopping by the MW to check it out, we quickly cancelled our second night at the chain hotel and moved to the MW. The friendly and accommodating staff took great care of us. The beautiful hotel exudes comfort, history and charm! The huge front porch is a lovely place to sit on a rocking chair enjoying coffee in the morning or a cocktail in the evening. The restaurant was quite good, the guest rooms quaint, spacious and comfortable -- with luxurious bathrooms -- and the indoor pool, fitness center, and spa all absolutely wonderful! An outdoor fire pit and hot tub add a nice touch. We didn't have time for tennis, but the courts looked inviting as well. We did have an after dinner drink in the library, which was thoroughly enjoyable! This hotel is well worth a visit if you find yourselves in the area. Next time (yes, we plan to return!) we hope to catch a show at the theatre across the street (walking distance!), and will let the MW staff take care of our bike rentals for the Creeper Trail. We didn't know they offered this service -- they will drive you and your bikes (which they provide) right from the hotel to the top of the trail and pick you up once you've completed the ride. Couldn't be happier to have found this gem of a hotel and can't wait to return!

I lived near Abingdon 30 years ago and always wondered what the Martha Washington was like. On a trip back to the area in July we decided to find out. Grand is the best way to describe the Martha. The building is beautiful and has been restored with fitting tributes to its history. We reserved one of the least expensive rooms, and although it had no view at all, it was in every other respect large, luxurious and well appointed. We enjoyed the spa and pool after a day riding the Virginia Creeper trail, before heading across the street to the Barter Theatre. The location in the heart of historic Abingdon couldn't be better for proximity to restaurants. The service was also excellent and the atmosphere was comfortable, not stuffy. The one thing I would improve is the complementary continental breakfast. I suppose you get what you pay for, but there were actually fewer selections than at many chain hotels and the coffee ran dry. Overall, it was a terrific value and an adventure into the past.

The MW is an elegant, convenient, affordable hotel in Abington. The hotel is organized in three connected historic building he along Abingdon's Main Street and within walking distance (across the street) of the Barter Theatre. While located well off the beaten path in rural southwestern Virginia, Urban and sophisticated visitors from off will appreciate the details, accommodations, service, spa, culinary, arts, and outdoor resources immediately available to visitors. I enjoyed bike riding, a massage at the Inn's in-house spa, a wonderful diner at the historic Tavern down the street and a well executed play at the Barter Theatre. A weekend or week day retreat, this was one of the best deals I have found in the mid-Atlantic...and arguably the East Coast as well.
