My wife and I took a quick weekend trip out to VT just to spend some time relaxing and we stayed at the West Mountain Inn. We'd stayed once before back in July during our honeymoon and we loved the place both times! It is a comfortable place to stay in a beautiful part of the state. The rooms vary quite a bit, but we didn't spend much time in them anyhow as the sitting area downstairs is so comfortable and welcoming. It was especially nice with the cold weather outside sitting in front of the fireplace. The one downside was an abundance of kids being a little on the noisy side while playing Mario Kart. Not a big deal but it would have been nice if the staff had asked them to be a little quieter or at least move into the game room rather than the sitting area. Breakfast is amazingly delicious and more than worth the price, dinner is also very good but as it isn't really my style of food I doubt I'd do it again.

Room Tip: I personally liked the look of rooms 1,2, and 3. If you know there will be an opening however I migh...

We arrived late after a long week and slept blissfully, had a terrific breakfast and went exploring the surrounding countryside.
Saturday night's dinner was excellent as was the ambience of the living room afterwards with the fire in the woodstove.
Overall...it was a great stay!!!

Very relaxing atmosphere; fantastic service; great rooms. This inn is just off the beaten path; about twenty minutes from Manchester, VT. The rooms are very well done, and some have wood burning fireplaces like ours did. Their wood supply was abundant, but green; starting and maintaining a nice fire was a chore, so choosing a room with gas fireplace might be a better choice if you want the ambiance of a fire more than once a day. The bathroom could have used some updating; but hey, it's a bathroom; the rest of the suite was superb. Common areas were warm and inviting. We chose this inn partially because they serve a full dinner every night. The chef was most accommodating to all of my wife's dietary restrictions; we could not have asked for better treatment. Some of his dishes are extremely well prepared, and some left a little room for improvement. If you are expecting a truly gourmet experience, this place may leave you slightly disappointed, but over-all, the meals were quite satisfactory and well priced, and are offered prix fixe as well as a la carte. The inn is quite charming, and the staff very attentive. Over-all great value. Close enough to everything to be doable, but far enough from the center of the action to make you feel that you're in another century. No flat screen TV's or musical/CD/MP3 clocks; which we found WONDERFUL. We travel extensively and highly recommend this establishment. Looks like a great place for a wedding, too.

Room Tip: Every room we looked at had its own special charm

My husband and I traveled from Oregon for our niece Claire's marriage to our new nephew Todd.
We had never been to Vermont before, and we were thrilled when we arrived at West Mountain Inn to discover that not only was the environment beautiful (like Oregon), the Carlson family and employees made us feel so at home (like we do for strangers in Oregon). We stayed in Will's room in the old family homestead. We are picky about bedding, comfort, and cleanliness. All three of those things were perfect. (Other family had rooms at the Inn and in the Mill House. Everyone I spoke with was so happy with their accomodations.) We also love high quality food, and we couldn't wait for the next meal to happen because the food was so delicious, from the entrees to desserts. The wine selection was superb, and pours were generous. Coffee is also important to us and it was good enough to drink without cream, and accept refills. Our family can have a great time in any environment, but I believe that this was the best family get together and wedding we have ever had, thanks in part to the wonderful staff and beautiful, comfortable Inn.

I had a dream of what it would be like to have my wedding weekend at this majestic place, but never in a million years could I have imagined how absolutely perfect it would turn out. It far surpassed any of my high expectations. There are not words to describe the visceral magic you will feel in celebrating the most important day of your life in this homey, intimate, yet elegant and gorgeous, environment. The beauty of the place, combined with the low key professionalism and support of the wedding coodinator, ownder, and staff is one in a million. The chef was so flexible and collaberated with us to execute a phenomenal rehearsal dinner and wedding reception dinner. I would not change one single solitary thing about my wedding (except I wish had splurged on a videographer to capture the beauty of this event in real time.)If you are looking to host a wedding that does not feel like your run of the mill "banquet hall" experience, you will not be sorry if you choose west mountain. Next best thing to hosting it at your own home, if you were Martha Stewart, that is.

If you are looking for a high-end, classic rural Vermont B&B, this is the place! Situated in the quiet southwest corner of the state, the Inn is set amidst the Green Mountains that inspired Rockwell Kent (Mt. Equinox); and close to Revolutionary War Bennington as well as the Robert Frost homestead in S. Shaftsbury. Scenic 7A runs from Bennington through to Arlington and on to Manchester and points north. Easy access from Interstate highway-like route 7, with connections to route 22 in adjoining NY state.
Wonderful period rooms lavishly furnished, and given the names of famous Vermonters. The Rockwell Kent room has a working fireplace, intriguing furniture, a loft for children, and a great deal of space. The view is towards the Alpaca grazing field and a peak beyond the property and the Battenkill River. Beautiful grounds and many walking trails too.
Excellent lounge, bar space, game room and dining room. Superb dinners including venison in season, and hearty breakfasts. A large flat screen tv downstairs provides NFL fans with Sunday, Monday and Thursday games. What more could you ask for?

Room Tip: All rooms are special and have their own character. Some rooms have working fireplaces for those who...
