We were there for a family wedding. The rooms were big and clean, with a bathroom in each room. Rooms varied from single to suites - even had a couple of cottages on the property. All up-to-date facilities. Had big country breakfast Monday through Saturday and Sunday brunch as well as dinner. Great food! All gratuities included in the price of the room. Grounds large with gardens, small animals, barn. Perfect setting for all wedding festivities - or any other function requiring accommodation and area for event. Located 7 miles south of Manchester, VT which is very picturesque town with shopping, hiking, golf etc. Highly recommend it!

The mountain location is fabulous, the fully refurbished inn is beautiful, the food is to die for, the relaxation can not be beat! The rooms are very clean and nice and the all brand new matresses were extremely comfortable. The staff is very friendly and the four resident
alpacas are very cute! We LOVED it and will definitely be back!

In the past when we went to a B&B we felt we did not have enough privacy. At West Mountain Inn we enjoyed as much privacy as we wanted, we were able to sit and enjoy our meals at a table for two. The food was outstanding, the dinners being very reasonably priced. Our room was very clean, and pleasantly decorated. The staff was very willing to help and attend to our needs and wants. We expect to be returning to this lovely Inn, well run vacation spot.

We planned our anniversary get-away knowing that we wanted to be within 3 hours of our home, wanted to spend a good amount of time on/in the water and hoped to find a romantic spot for an overnight. When we found the West Mountain Inn in Arlington, VT. the variety of large, charming rooms with comfortable seating for reading appealed to us. The fact that it was on the Battenkill River and there were 150 acres of walkable/hikable land to explore were even more appealing.

Being mid-week we were fortunate that several rooms were available. We were able to view a few when we arrived and selected the large comfortable Rockwell Kent suite. We almost chose the Robert Frost room since it had an appealing enclosed porch overlooking the gardens that would have been a perfect reading nook, but the Rockewell Kent room had windows on 3 sides and was cheerful yet elegant, well appointed and very comfortable.

Amie Carlson, the owner, and Mary Beth who was at the front desk were a wealth of information before and after we arrived. Through them we were able to have a canoe at the riverbank within 15 minutes of our arrival, rented from Battenkill Valley Outdoors. The paddle down the river was absolutely fabulous! We couldn't have chosen a better activity for a warm summer's day. They also directed us to a hidden swimming hole nearby as well as had trail maps handy for walking around the property. We could not imagine a more wonderful way to spend our anniversary and are already making plans to return in a few months for more of their hospitality. We also may try a winter get-away in the future since I suspect some of the trails on the property, although probably ungroomed, may be great for cross-country skiing treking.

The Inn itself is gorgeous and the views from its hilltop location are beautiful and serene. Since there was a special conference the night we visited, we selected one of the many restaurants in the area for our anniversary dinner on Amie's recommendation.

This will definitely be the place we stay whenever we visit this area of Vermont. I really don't want to go anywhere else since everything we enjoy is altogether in one spot and Amie and her crew are most welcoming and kind.

My friend had her wedding here, the food was great, and the staff was exceptional. The views are amazing, and the grounds are very nicely kept. The rooms are very cozy. Might take a trip back in the winter when everything is snow covered, but I'm not sure my car will make it up the hill!

When we arrived we were informed that the Inn had failed four tests for "coliform" bacteria in the water supply. We were provided water bottles to aid in brushing our teeth. The air conditioning in our room was inadequate and made sleeping difficult. The carpeting had recently been replaced in the room, but the doors had not been trimmed to allow for the thicker carpet. This made opening and closing doors in the room difficult. There were exposed heating pipes in the bathroom which gave the room an "unfinished" appearance. There is only one television at the Inn which isn't necessarily a good thing if one is staying there with children. The food, however, was excellent.

Thank you for your candid review, we will be addressing the issues that you brought up with our maintenance staff immediately!

In terms of the water problem, that has now been solved. The West Mountain Inn's water comes from a well located on the property. The state of Vermont requires the Inn (and other similar water systems like ours) to be tested monthly to ensure the water meets a high quality standard. During our most recent test total coliform bacteria were found in the water supply. This is a fairly normal occurrence in well-based water systems, especially during rainy/humid weather. Total coliform bacteria are not harmful themselves, but indicate that other bacteria that can make you sick could be present in the water. We have had an engineer in to inspect the water system for deficiencies causing the bacteriological positive results and have since been given a Certificate of Safe Water and are no longer required to give our guests bottled water for their consumption.

I have visited the West Mountain Inn for the last 25 years. The current owner is the daughter of the original owners, Wes and Maryann Carlson. Though there are some changes to the Inn such as adding some technology like WiFi (a must have) and a TV (yuk!) in the bar area, the main house is such a special place. The grounds now include gardens which you can stroll in and sit in and around various chairs and tables. Very well maintained. The food is a noticeable improvement from the last time we visited. There appears to be more focus on weddings during this stay. The Inn is perfectly laid out to accommodate reasonable sized wedding parties and the barn is a perfect location for any unique wedding. All in all it has been a very relaxing stay. I do recommend this Inn during Christmas especially. They are very child friendly.
