The Whitney House Inn
Ranked #4 of 8 Arlington B&B and Inns
Reviewed July 19, 2010

This is the perfect Vermont B&B experience in a postcard-perfect town. My husband and I loved this country inn. It's been lovingly restored by a couple from New York. They are working hard to make their new venture a success by offering gourmet breakfasts and over-the-top hospitality in a historic home. Highly recommended:
Pros: Large porch ideal for hanging out, fantastic food, terrific owners, great location in area with lots of activities, beautiful home with great beds, linens.
Cons: None.

Travelling north back to Canada we were intending to stop over near Rutland but ran out of steam in Arlington. By chance we saw the Whitney House sign and stopped. We were warmly greeted on the front porch by two very amiable people who turned out to be our hosts. And things just got better. We wont repeat what others have said ( all true and acurate ). This is a B&B the way a B&B is supposed to be: clean, comfortable and cordial. We were immediately at home. And what a home. This is one of the best preserved turn of the century mansions in Vermont, and Kerry and Pat are proud of it. If you have an interest in old homes Kerry will tell you all about the house. He might even show you the fabulous old Butler Pantry --- still intack and functional --- although now within their private quarters. Take a close look at the door hinges in your room. I have never seen such ornate door ornate hinges --- all in original condition.

Other things of note not previously mentioned are the fine quality Mennonite furnishings and the premium matresses. You will sleep well at the Whitney House. You will also eat well. Both Pat and Kerry share the cooking, each with their own specialty, and it's gourmet quality. If you are in the area or travelling through we urge you to try this B& B and experience two of the nicest people you could ever hope to meet. Thanks Kerry and Pat . We look forward to a return visit.

We recently spent 3 nights at Whitney House Inn. Over the years we have stayed at many B&B's in USA, Canada and Europe and this lovely inn was one of the best B&B experiences we have ever had. The common areas and guest rooms are very homey, well appointed and comfortable. The grounds are spacious and well maintained and the porch is most inviting. But the two greatest assets of the inn are the charming innkeepers, Kerry and Patricia (Miss Pattie as we called her) Meade. They were so much fun and helpful to us in every way - making dinner reservations, providing information on places of interest in the area. Most of all we enjoyed our delightful fireside chats with our gracious hosts. Breakfasts were prepared by Chef Kerry and lovingly served in the beautiful drawing room. Each morning was different and gourmet quality. A special treat we've never encountered before: at 7 am each guest room receives outside the door a tray of coffee, tea and inn-prepared pastries - such an elegant touch...an eye-opener and sweet before breakfast! We so enjoyed our stay we can't wait to visit this inn again in the future.

This inn was absolutely wonderful. If you are looking for some personal attention and peaceful relaxation, then I highly recommend the Whitney House. It is in a great location (very close to Manchester) and extremely quaint. Pat and Kerry (the owners) were so kind and catered to our every need: offering us snacks in the afternoon and lighting a fire for us anytime we were in the living room. We had chances to chat with them and get to know them which was nice. They had plenty of local menus to browse and had great dinner recommendations. The wake-up tray that is placed outside of your room every morning is such a delight, but save room for breakfast because the food was amazing!! It was different each morning, but both days extremely tasty and satisfying. Our room was very cute and comfortable and was just what we needed. They put bottles of water and mints in the room and turned down the bed at night, a very nice touch. Overall, this inn was great and we certainly hope to return!

This colonial style B&B was delightful. Pat & Kerry were most welcoming with refreshments on arrival and later on in the evening round a big open log fire. The views from the bedroom windows were stunning, overlooking hillsides of trees.
Pat and Kerry were knowledgeable about the area and what to do and where to eat.
Pre-Breakfast muffins & tea would have been enough, but we were then treated to fruit, cooked breakfast and home-made orenge flavoured scones.

My wife and I stayed for a week and used the Whitney House Inn as our base for day trip adventures. Pat and Kerry were wonderful hosts; very attentive and accomodating. From the wake-up coffee service and fresh baked goods placed outside our bedroom door each morning, to the delicious breakasts (different each morning), to the helpful advice with planning our activities and restaurant choices, to the enjoyable social gatherings in the evenings in front of the fireplace, we really felt comfortable and at ease.

Pat and Kerry have put a lot of hard work and love into this house and it shows. The Whitney House Inn is a great place to get away and relax in a warm and cozy setting.

We especially enjoyed one afternoon canoeing on the Battenkill River and taking in the historic covered bridges and colorful fall foliage.

This was my husband's first time doing a bed and breakfast trip and he was not quite sure what to expect-What a fabulous first time for him. He is hooked and cannot wait to go back. Coffee in the morning waiting for you outside your bedroom door on a tray with some warm sweet rolls while you are getting ready to go down for breakfast...What a treat and just warms you up. Pat & Kerry were so warm and helpful in their suggestions for dinner, daytime outings and just relaxing drives. Cannot say enough of how much we enjoyed our stay- only hope when we want to go back that there will be a room available!
