The Whitney House Inn
Ranked #5 of 8 Arlington B&B and Inns

Pat and Kerry are simply your friends in Vermont that you haven't yet met, and you will leave with hugs all around. The lovely inn is a reflection of this gracious, warm, hospitable couple, who have clearly found their calling. Their home is tastefully decorated without being "country tacky," and the bedrooms are fresh, comforting, and welcoming with new furniture and comfy bedding. The bathrooms are up to date and immaculate, as well as just big enough. A wake up tray at 7:00 AM piques your appetite (as well as your curiosity) for a delicious, healthful breakfast. You will hear yourself ask, "What treat will it be today?" Regardless of the answer, you will be delighted...and full!

Although we were the only guests for a recent three night stay, each night Kerry made sure that the fireplace was ready for lighting when we returned from dinner. An added treat was the company of Pat and Kerry for some light conversation and plentiful laughs. Had we indicated a preference to be alone, our hosts would have picked up on those vibes and left us to enjoy their home and our privacy. However, I cannot imagine why anyone would not want to spend a bit of time with this fabulous couple.

While in Arlington, we had three delicious dinners on the area: Ye Old Tavern in Manchester,
Chanticleer in East Dorset, and The Arlington Inn in Arlington.

On the trip back home, we already started planning a return visit. If you haven't yet been to the Whitney House Inn, don't lose any more time before planning your first visit.

We stayed for New Years weekend. And had the exact reaction that the previous reviewer - jolly_death_marcher - had. Inn keepers Kerry and Pat were absolutely warm and inviting. The breakfasts were top notch. And the rooms excellent. I told Kerry and Pat that if I had to describe staying at the Whitney Inn, I could honestly say, that it was like visiting mom and dad for the holidays........warm and very inviting. We had great evening conversations, great breakfast small talk. And great knowledge of the Arlington, Manchester, and Bennington area. Thanks again Pat n Kerry ! Love you guys n see you soon.

Room Tip: Doesn't matter. They're all great.

We had a wonderful three-night stay this August with Pat and Kerry. They were the most hospitable innkeepers we have ever met. From the moment we arrived, they made us feel at home with their warm personalities. We were incredibly pleased with our room (Whitney View): it was immaculately clean with charming (new) furnishing and a very, very comfortable bed (the entire house is wonderfully restored). After restful nights, we came down to our breakfast table where Pat lit candles, bringing a little romance to the morning. Then came tasty fruit cups topped with yummy sorbets or ice cream followed by Kerry’s delicious breakfasts. We enjoyed eggs in a nest, lemon ricotta pancakes, and stuffed croissants during our three day stay. At night we returned to our rooms to find turn-down service and chocolates on our nightstand. Encountering this level of thoughtfulness would have been enough for me on this visit, but we happened to be staying with Pat and Kerry during Hurricane Irene. After venturing out that morning to see what was open, and finding nothing, we returned ready to make the best of a veggie platter and a block of cheese for dinner. Instead, Pat and Kerry invited us to a cookout, knowing that restaurants were closed due to the storm. They literally invited us into their home, opening their quarters to us. After dinner we relaxed in their living room, as if we were at an aunt and uncle’s for family dinner, sharing stories and laughs before heading up to bed. We can’t thank them enough for making us such welcomed guests!

My husband and I spent this past Sunday night (10/23) at the Whitney House Inn, and this beautifully restored B&B did not disappoint! The owners, Kerry and Pat, went out of their way to make our stay special. They made a fire for us to enjoy in the downstairs living room when we returned from our dinner out, along with a bottle of chilled champagne for our anniversary. They were never intrusive, and generous to a fault. When I realized I didn't have cell service, Pat gave me her phone and insisted I give our babysitter the phone number so we could be reached at any time! The best part is the tray they leave outside of your bedroom door at 7am, with coffee and muffins. They don't wake you, they just tell you the night before that it will be there. My husband and I enjoyed coffee in bed and then went down for a delicious, candle-lit breakfast (in our pj's) of baked bananas, lemon-ricotta pancakes, bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, juice and coffee. By the time we said our good-byes (with hugs all around!) we knew this place was a keeper. I can't wait to go back In December and see it decorated for Christmas and do some shopping in Manchester! Absolutely lovely!!

Room Tip: The room called "Whitney's View" is a little bit bigger than the other 2. We loved it!

We spent three nights at the Whitney House in late September 2011 and couldn't recommend it more highly. Patricia and Kerry made us feel very welcome. Their love for the Inn was evident in all the personal touches and effort that they put into every aspect of our stay.

Our room was immaculate, the beds were large and very comfortable. There was a communal refrigerator in the main entrance of the Inn that was very convenient. Tea, coffee and muffins were served at 7 on the dot every morning. This was followed by a more substantial breakfast in the large main room. For us, each breakfast was different, but equally delicious.

Moreover, Arlington is a perfectly located town. It was our first visit to Vermont and it didn't disappoint. There are an abundance of great drives and hikes within minutes of the Whitney, and Patricia and Kerry were very helpful in terms of directions and suggestions. With their help we found a number of great local delights that we may otherwise have missed, such as Jonathon's Table, which was excellent.

We'd definitely go back!

We absolutely loved every minute of our unplanned, but especially delightful stay at the White House Inn! The home baked morning extras, those divine lemon ricotta pancakes (dying to have that recipe!) for breakfast and the genuine, warm & welcoming hospitality we received, will bring us back for another visit. We will be recommending Whitney House Inn to family & friends! P.S. Make sure you go to Jonathon's Table for dinner!

We stayed at the Whitney House Inn for 2 nights recently. We were warmly greeted by Kerry and Pat the owners, who have made the inn a very warm and comfortable place to stay. The rooms were spacious, impecably clean, and decorated in a nice style that befits the age of the inn. The beds were comfortable and the shower was great. Both Kerry and Pat were very accommodating in obtaining map directions for us and in giving us recommendations for very good restaurants. Our only regret was that there wasn't a television or radio available, so that we could get the results of the Red Sox game. In spite of this we would definitely stay again with Kerry and Pat.
