The ambience, comfort, and hospitality was perfection. The added bonus of a fabulous breakfast made our three night stay terrific. Coupled with Orvis Fly Fishing classes, you can't beat the pair.
Can't wait to go back!

We have just spent two wonderful days at the Ira Allen House in Sunderland, VT. Partners Kevin, Michael and Tracey along with building consultant, Tim, became the new owners of the inn, which has been in existence for more than 200 years, at the end of last year, and have great plans for the property. The bedrooms and public spaces are very comfortable and furnished with tasteful antiques and memorabilia.

Kevin is an accomplished chef who provides a full breakfast each morning using locally sourced organic produce. One of the large first floor sitting rooms was once a tavern, and this is soon to be reopened, providing beer, wine and evening meals for guests and the general public. In the future Kevin hopes to introduce wine tasting evenings and cookery classes with invited chefs.

The property sits on 10 acres of woodlands with a meadow running down to a local river, suitable for canoeing and fishing. Manchester, with its designer outlet stores is just a few miles up the road.

If you’re looking for a quiet getaway in Vermont, the Ira Allen House would be a great choice. The inn is wonderful, but what makes it special are the warm welcoming personalities of its hosts.

We really enjoy staying at B&Bs... each has it's very own character and aura. Our favorite B&B by far is the Ira Allen House. We recently stayed there for the third time (over three years) and was pleasantly surprised that it just keeps getting better and better. And at $99.00 per night, it was most affordable. The home is under new ownership and Kevin and Michael are wonderful hosts with lots of wonderful and creative ideas. The breakfast was fabulous with homemade corned beef hash with beef that Kevin corned himself. I didn't even know that people did that! The owners are most helpful and gave great advice for activities and places not to miss. Skiing at nearby Stratton was still good late March! Wood burning fireplace in our room was lovely with lots of cut wood available to burn and a starter log as well. We can't wait to see what the future holds for the Ira Allen House! We'll be back for sure. :)

This really was the perfect area to visit and the perfect guest house to stay in. The house belonged to Ethan and Ira Allen, of historical fame. The common rooms are very spacious and cozy with fireplaces everywhere. This very old house seems to be built amazingly well, nothing creaks the large rooms have terrific crossbeams and floorboards from another era. The rooms are all suites with two bedrooms and a private sitting area and bath. It also sits on some grounds of its own for walks and exploring.
The owners are extremely friendly and helpful. They prepare great meals for guests, plus cocktails if you want them. Breakfast was especially great and they even had home made cookies out all day. Excellent.

Our family of five were refered to this home from a favorite inn down the same road. Our one night soon changed to three with our children asking if they could stay longer. Their home became our home by extending their hospitality and making us feel welcomed. I encourage this lovely spot for any family wanting a home away from home. Hotels are nice for pools - Ira Allen Inn is excellent for a good quality food, comfort, music (thank you Michael for the piano playing), conversation, fantastic book collection and genuine Vermont charm. Ski hills are near by so do consider this your chalet for apres-ski.

A firm believer in day trips, I hopped into my car one day and headed north only to find myself too tired to drive home. I found myself at The Ira Allen Bed and Breakfast on a lark, and was VERY glad that I chose to stop there. Very accommodating & friendly hosts, awesome location and fabulous eats!!!!!! My room was very comfortable..........quite conducive to "sleeping in" late the next morning, awaking to the aromas of brewing coffee and freshly baked muffins wafting in from the kitchen!!!! Heaven! Also, I was very impressed to find out that Kevin ( one of the hosts ) uses local ingredients for cooking when available, and that the the Inn is heated by a sustainable energy source; an outdoor wood and corn pellet burning furnace!!!!!! Way to go! Looking forward to many more stays at my "home away from home!"

Driving through the Arlington/Manchester, VT. and without intention to stop, I found myself checking some of the Inns along Rt 7A. There was something uniquely heartwarming and welcoming in the nature of the property and present-day hosts of The Ira Allen House! After a brief but friendly exchange with Kevin (one of the hosts), I left only to return an hour later to begin what turned out to be a most memorable experience! There is something soulful about the atmosphere of this place! Every aspect of it! The rooms, the decore, the hosts, the property and the entire setting! Enough so, that I settled in for longer than I intended - though I had no intention of settling in at all! I felt as if at home with friends! In fact, I feel as though I have made some new, life-long friends! The place is REAL and so are the hosts! Already planning the first return trip with family!
