“Lovely Bed & Breakfast on Lake Champlain”
Reviewed March 18, 2014

I first stayed at Thomas Mott for a mother daughter weekend a few years ago. The following year my husband and I booked a couples' time and August 2013 was our third year staying at the Thomas Mott B&B as a couple. We like to stay in a different room each visit and have found each room to have its own unique charm. The breakfast that Sue and Bob prepare are gourmet feasts. We typically order a dinner for a special relaxing evening at the inn, delicious! The location is ideally located on Lake Champlain and we enjoy exploring the many VT artisan shoppe's, antique stores, and spending a day shopping in Burlington and Shelburne. We also discovered a local 'Civil War' museum which was quite fascinating. Sitting by the lake in the Adirondack chairs reading and the gentle sound of the lake's waves in the evening is a great way to cap off an enjoyable day. We highly recommend Thomas Mott B&B.

This place marks the halfway point in the Champlain Bikeway loop. There's not much around. Sue, knowing we were on bikes, offered to make us dinner as well. The view of the lake from our bedroom was amazing. There are windows that wrap around two walls with the longest wall facing the lake. There was a storm that night and the show was just fantastic. Sue makes her own granola and yogurt and offers them along with a full breakfast. She made her garage available for our bikes. All in all - very accommodating and comfortable stay.

We almost stayed at North Hero house but decided it looked cramped and run down in the photos, and a bit overpriced.
The best part about the house is the view over Lake Champlain. We got the room with the balcony overlooking the lake, although we mostly spent time in the Adirondack chairs on the lawn overlooking the water. There are other pretty areas on the outside of the property to enjoy also. Wonderfully peaceful.
The innkeepers were super friendly, and we were highly entertained at breakfast by tales from the innkeepers as well as the other guests.
Everyone seemed to be having a great time...this seems to be a favorite with cyclists and other "outdoorsy" people. There is also a lot of history (revolutionary war era) in the area.
Alberg, however, is really out of the way from everything (except the Canadian border). That's a plus as far as crowds, but it does mean that there is a 20 minute drive to any restaurant.
We also definitely picked the wrong room...for my tastes, anyway. It was very cramped, being in an attic space. There was no storage to speak of, no closet (just pegs on the wall at the small entryway). Those fabulous sliding glass doors to the balcony turned out to be not so fabulous at night. The standard screen grid let small (thankfully non-biting) bugs into the room. As there were neither A/C nor windows, the only way to be comfortable was to keep the sliding glass door open. (The small waves on the lake were wonderful to hear though). There is a thin curtain on these doors which means we were blasted with sun at dawn. The bathroom was also small, with a very small shower. The shower head was not attached to the wall so I couldn't direct the spray head. The bathroom was done in 80's hyperfloral wallpaper (olive and pink) and we were provided with towels that were hot pink and lime green. Wow! This room is called "Hero's View", and I guess I'm not brave enough to stay in this room again.
I think the other rooms do not have these issues but did not go poking around to see for sure.
On the other hand...we saved $80 a night staying here over North Hero House's lakefront rooms, plus we had a great breakfast.
Bottom line I would recommend this with reservations.

Room Tip: Hero's View has wonderful view of the lake but is cramped and faces east -- the room gets very b...

Spent 2 nights, pretty location, fascinating house (some parts built 1835), nicely appointed. I stayed in a 2nd floor room with balcony, fire place, sofa with a wonderful view overlooking Lake Champlain. Sue was excellent and being available and answering questions about the area. Very comfortable setting, excellent breakfasts and a dinner made by Sue. A previous reviewer said no shampoo, but there was shampoo, lotion and a sewing kit. If you are in the area, I would recommend.

My boyfriend and I came home last night from a wonderful weekend getaway in northern VT. We stayed at the Thomas Mott Homestead B&B and had an exceptional visit from start to finish. First, we notified hosts/owners Sue & Bob that we would be arriving very late - between 10 & 11pm. When we arrived we faced smiling hosts that gave us a brief tour, introduced us to other guests that were still awake then showed us our room. Not once did they leave us feeling as if our late arrival was a hassle. Breakfast each morning was delicious. Sue is a great cook! Regardless of what time you want to have breakfast they are willing to be awake & have everything ready for you. Bob & Sue are both great conversationalists and made us feel right at home for the entire weekend. There is no doubt about it - we will visit them again!

Room Tip: All of the rooms had private baths.
