“Perfect Alpine Ski Experience”
Reviewed February 10, 2014

We have stayed at the Alta Peruvian for over 20 years; so of course we think it is great or we would not continue to go back there! It is affectionately called "Camp Peruvian" because so many of the people we see there return year after year … a place to be with like minded skiers having an "old school" ski lodge experience with some modern amenities. Can't beat a swim in the warm pool after a day skiing Alta's powder!

Hot tub post skiing was great. Lunch menu could use a little variety but dinner was great.
Enjoyed meeting people from all over the country at dinner. Van service to all lifts is very convenient. Ski shop guys rock!

Room Tip: mountianside rooms are sunnier

A little treasure!
Such a great atmosphere. Very chill and kind of old school. So charming. No TVs in the rooms because who wants to be in the room? The point is we are here to ski, eat, sleep repeat.
Can't wait to come again

I absolutely love the old school skiing experience at the Peruvian at Alta. We stayed there for 3 nights 1/17-1/20 and had a great time. The staff is super helpful. The food is delicious and the lounging area is so great. We enjoyed meeting and chatting with some of the other guests after an amazing day of skiing. My only complaint was that the rooms were a bit too hot but other than that it was a stellar experience! We would definitely return.

Like a backcountry cabin experience but with more!! The hotel staff were helpful and friendly. All the meals through out the week were excellent!! If you are looking for a true ski experience and not your cinder block hotel this is the place to go!! I'll be back!!

Alta is all about the skiing -- you don't go there for any of the frills that some of the flasher ski areas provide. Having said that, it's still pretty luxurious to come back to the lodge after a hard day on the slopes to find freshly-baked cookies laid out for you, steaming hot pools ready to soothe your tired muscles, and the knowledge that you're not going to have to haul yourself out of your state of tired bliss to cook a meal for your family. We've stayed at the Peruvian twice now, and we'll continue to try to find ways to return (since it's not cheap), for several reasons besides those I've just mentioned. They include the friendly relaxed vibe, which is partially provided by the lodge, and partially by the type of people that stay there, the easy access to the lifts (which is made even easier than it needs to be by the free shuttle service), the comfortable beds (even if the rooms are small), and the plentiful hearty food (which seems to vary a bit -- I thought the quality was better a couple of years ago -- but even at its most basic level it's still pretty decent) and good company.
It's not completely without its issues: as Russ K mentioned, the place was HOT when we stayed there. Outside was cold, and we had to keep our window wide open all night just to be able to sleep, minus blankets. There's not much space for storage: a few more wall hooks, clothes hangers and the odd shelf would help: we made good use of the sprinkler pipes, though this may not have been strictly legit. This time we had a room with a shared bathroom, which was mostly fine since it was modern, clean, and the showers were good. However, the women's bathroom was right next to the Peruvian's bar, which occasionally made showering after skiing slightly more awkward than it could have been. One evening our young daughter got up to use the loo at around 9pm, and was joined in the next-door cubicle by a drunk couple. That was a lesson she wasn't expecting. I don't know if the bar has its own bathroom, but if not, perhaps this could be looked at -- in any case it would be nice if bar patrons could be deterred from using facilities set aside for lodge guests, many of whom are kids. It is worth emphasising that the presence of the bar is not otherwise disruptive to guests, since it closes at 10pm. And overall our experience was great. We're already planning our next visit.

The other reviews say it all, and please ignore the one about it being a frat house, those people belong at Disney. The Alta Peruvian is the best! Just one constructive comment: please modernize the heating system. During our stay over MLK Day 2014 the outside temps were 15-40F, and the temps in our room 80F, with the heat turned off! When I mentioned this to the front desk, their only solution was to open the window, which we did, day and night. I just hope that with a little 21st century engineering this problem can be solved and that among its other attributes the Peruvian can be an example of responsible energy use.
