Owner description: Alta turns 70 next winter. Alta's place in the ski world is unique, its history storied. Alta's culture blends this past with the future as it presents, along with Snowbird Ski & Summer Resort, America's first lift-served interconnect. Alta and pure, unspoiled skiing are synonymous. Alta's wide variety of terrain, breathtaking alpine scenery and superb snow conditions combine to create a unique setting. Alta continues to offer a ski-only experience.

No high speed lifts, no snowboarders, no easy access between lifts and not much fresh snow.
Visited between powder days unfortunately. Lots of terrain, but most is not easily accessible without trekking. Without fresh powder, the mountain and views were somewhat mundane.
Amenities are old school and rustic. The fast food is decent and less expensive than Colorado, but a good packed lunch is the best bet. Deer Valley is also skiers only, but is in a totally different league with it's opulence.

Pretty much as good as it gets. Not complicated, great-ski only experience. Upgrade rentals to the demo package for brand name, comfortable boots. Buy lift tickets online ahead of time to save almost $30 a person. If possible, bring your own lunch-- food was overprice and fast food standard.

Alta is my favorite ski area in the world. The snow is consistently amazing, the terrain is varied enough to keep it interesting day after day, and it's incredibly easy to get to from SLC. Add the "no snowboarding allowed" rule on top of all that and it's easy to see why this is a skiier's paradise!

Alta shares a mountain with Snowbird; and by "shares" I mean that you can literally ski from the top of one to the bottom of the other (if you have a combo lift ticket). And both places let you consistently experience the "best snow on earth!" But while they share the same mountain, Alta is much more accessible to a wider variety of skiiers than Snowbird.

There are definitely steep areas, but Alta has more easy Greens and accommodating Blues to offer beginners/intermediates than Snowbird. However, that doesn't mean that the more advanced skiiers out there will be bored--just give some of those chutes a try!

Alta is much more laid back and retro than most of the ski resorts in the area; you won't find any 4-star restaurants or luxury spas here. But that's because the focus isn't on the apres ski scene or fancy hotels--it's all about the skiing. And that's just the way I like it!

Oh, and the mountain itself is absolutely stunning, so be sure to bring an extra memory card for your camera!

Alta had the best snow of all the surrounding areas. People came from California because there is so little snow. I have skied Alta many times & it is still a wonderful area to ski. There is always something new & challenging.

Arrived on a Sunday after four days of snow. Skied Monday in power in the fog - a bit challenging for the first day. Tues, Weds and Thurs were perfect days - dark blue ski and great snow.
