Very cool place to see alligators, birds, wildlife. Be prepared to walk. Worth the drive.

We weren’t there at the ideal time of day to see lots of animals, but we did see an alligator, several groups of deer and a wide variety of birds. The viewing platforms are really nice. When we visited, several of the trails were closed, so if you are going there specifically to hike, you might want to call ahead to see if they are open. If you aren’t familiar with the Gulf area, mosquitoes can be a problem certain times of the year. If you plan on getting out of your car or having a picnic, you will need bug repellant. If you bring kids, pick up a wildlife check-off list at the welcome center. The lady in the welcome center was really friendly and can answer any questions you may have.

Since the weather wasn't great on our visit this was the only trail we walked. The whole trail is a mile or so but we saw Whooping cranes from the observation deck about 50 yards from the parking lot, so you don't waste much by stopping to at least check that out.
