“Worst stay of my life, totally disrespected!”
Reviewed February 5, 2013

Woke up at 7 am with cleaning staff bursting into my room after being locked out the night before and having to wait to go to sleep. When I told management they blamed me and told me that was thier policy because I wasnt a stay over guest. They assured I child have left as early as 6 am. At 7:30 they were vacuuming outside my door. The walls are like paper. Sleeping was impossible. Very expensive room. I didn't get in until 5 am, fell asleep at 6 and was woken up an hour later. Manager did not care. Very unprofessional. Better service at motel 6.

Thank you for your posting. I apolgize that you were disturbed at such an early hour. Even more concerning is that the hotel's staff members that perform those services are not scheduuled into much later in the morning - as, a good night's sleep is of paramount importance to us at The Driskill. Thank you again for your feedback

I stayed for 2 days last week in this hotel.we asked for a king size bed they gave us 2 queens.they really renovated the rooms but there is no space in the bathroom sinks to put anything.the shelves are so narrow so you cannot put your cosmetics.they did put a side table in the ladies sink with a magnifier mirror but the table is so low so you cannot use it.the table where the bar was had a destroyed door. Room had a nice decoration but too much for a small place.

Warmly greeted by staff at check-in with "Happy Annivesary". Entered room to quiet background music and bottle of bubbly with chocolate strawberries awaiting us. After dining out returned to the room to find a yellow rose on the pillow--nice touch. (My wife was having a great time!).
The room service breakfast was right on time and was excellent!! For us, this hotel was really a major splurge but it was well worth the cost.

I was lucky to join my husband for a stay at the beautiful historic Driskill while he was attending a work related training seminar. I'd only visited the bar before so getting to stay there was a real treat. Wonderful service and beautifully appointed rooms.

the Driskill is a historic landmark smack in the middle of downtown Austin. It is surrounded by the modern city. The hotel is beautiful and expensive. The bar and restaurant are very nice. We hung out in the bar almost every night after being out. Live music on most nights. We splurged because it was a milestone birthday celebration. You can walk to everything, we didn't have a car. The Capitol bldg, Univ. of Texas campus, downtown restaurants and shopping, the Lake/River running and biking trail (which is awesome by the way), the 6th Street music venues are a stones throw from the hotel. We discovered we could walk to "the old Austin area" across the Congress Street Bridge too late. We saw it through a car window. It looks super funky, lots of antique shops, boot store and tons of permanent food trucks. I'm bummed we missed it.
Cons:
The shower in our room didn't have tons of pressure but it is an old hotel, the beds were very comfy however.
The Driskill doesn't do a good job of providing in-room information for restaurants, shopping, things to do in Austin, other than what is happening at their hotel. Guess they don't want you to leave and spend money elsewhere.

This hotel truly takes you back in time, from the wooden floors, to the library books in the hallway, to the oil canvas paintings in Gold Foil frames along the walls. The elevators even carry this theme. The room was small but the extremely high ceilings make up for it. The WiFi was free and of course it's in an excellent location. I only ended up here because the Stephen F. Austin across the street is under going renovations. It was a different experience from the average contemporary hotel. I respect them for not giving into the trends, the guest are a little older. I remember thinking I feel like I should be holding a cigar while standing in the lobby.

Room Tip: Remember the rooms are a little small and the bathroom too.

We drove down from Ft. Worth for one night of fun in Austin and got a room at the Driskill. The place is simply gorgeous. It's located right on 6th Street (which really is not our scene), which made for great people watching. Our room was small, but beautiful. This hotel is worth the price. It's historic and just feels very special. We will stay here again.
