Wish we had been able to book a room here the October weekend of a wedding, but the bride wasn't a football fan and was aware that then undefeated West Virginia was playing Texas that Saturday. But we did stop in for drinks after dinner. You'll have to walk through a beautiful 100-year old marbled lobby and walk up a few steps to a large mezzanine lounge. The small circular bar was well staffed with four friendly bartenders. If you've just arrived from a major U.S. city there is no mistaken that you are now in Texas. Mounted on the bars columns are about four to six lamps, but not lamps you would see in a Ritz Carlton, Four Seasons, Marriott or Hilton. No, these lamp shades just a few blocks south of the Texas State Capitol (a must visit) are mounted atop the barrel of a real, long-barreled Colt 45!

Room Tip: Book early and check the college football schedule for the Texas Longhorns!

Thanks for the review. We make it a priority to maintain Colonel Driskill's "cattle baron" style and always love to hear that it's appreciated by our guests. See you next time!

This was a charming old hotel. Very well maintained. Centrally located for shopping, food, music, the LBJ Library and the University of Texas. The room was clean and comfortable The staff was very friendly and accommodating. The restaurants in the building were full of lively
visitors enjoying good food and great music.

This is one of the best places I have ever stayed, and we travel frequently. When you walk into the lobby, you feel special. The hotel is kept in stunning condition, both the public areas and the guest rooms. To really enjoy the hotel, eat at the 1886 Cafe and grab a drink at the Driskill Bar, they have a great menu and mixologist. The location is very central as well. This is THE place to stay in Austin - not just a hotel, but an experience as well.

Room Tip: Stay in the historic part of the hotel - the rooms are stunning.

I've stayed at The Driskill with my husband and kids (ages 3 and 5). The hotel is really charming, its café a very nice option for breakfast or even lunch/dinner. We were there during New Eve's celebration and there was a great festive atmosphere! Plus you can walk on 6th Street with its many bars - and lots of people celebration on that day. The hotel is close (walking distance) from the Capitol, the Hike & Bike Trail, the Children's Museums and many stores and restaurants.

We stayed at the Driskill for a friend's wedding and it was a wonderful trip. The rooms are lovely and big enough for sleeping and getting ready. I loved walking in to the lights on and music playing in the background - makes you feel like you're in first class! We didn't stay in the historic wing, but the decor blends seamlessly so that you wouldn't know the difference. The bathroom was well lit, we got a roll away bed brought in and taken away no problem, and the bar was lively every night we were there. The staircase was a pain with luggage to get to the ekevator, but it was a small price to pay for such a great stay. The ballrooms where the wedding was held were absolutely incredible!

Room Tip: If you can, try to stay in the historic wing. You can take the elevator straight from the check in d...

I came here to grab a drink before heading out to dinner. It was a great atmosphere with a cool band playing music.

Perfect place to bring some good company for a nice drink. The bar staff was very friendly and attentive even though it was quite busy.

A must stop place if going to Austin.

This lovely old hotel in downtown Austin has some quirks, but they add to the charm. The chief among the quirks was the elevator transfer to get to some of the rooms - one has to either walk up a grand staircase and across the bar to an elevator bank or take an elevator by the front desk to another level, walk across a function room and then take another elevator up to the room floors. Staff was very helpful and service oriented. When I elected the grand staircase route someone materiallzed to carry my suitcase up the stairs and escort me to the elevators.

The lobby was beautifully decorated for Christmas with a large tree and giant gingerbread historical house. I had breakfast at the cafe electing a lobby table to enjoy the tree.

Dinner at The Grille was fabulous! I dined alone and had an amazing steak with very attentive service.

My room was properly advertised as former servants quarters. It was small but adequate and very nicely decorated. The bed was comfortable.

I will stay at The Driskill on my next trip to Austin.
