“Almost, but not quite five star”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

So close, yet so far... No one thing in particular keeps this hotel from five stars, they just don't quite hit that level on any factor. More like four and a half stars, with some fours, leaving it at a four. Very pleasant attentive staff, desk staff tended to be a little on the hit or miss side. Called the operator for toiletries and towels three times over three days, all delivered very quickly. I know it's not their fault but all the construction around there is a negative. Furniture, fixtures, carpet, paint---all showing just the slightest bit of aging. I'm nitpicking but if you want five stars, there can't be any nits to pick. Definitely would not discourage some one from staying here, as long as they're getting a deal or a corporate rate.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the river side. Otherwise, you're looking at parking lots and construction.

Stayed at the Hyatt for a four day conference. My room was clean, updated & comfortable. The bathroom was standard (small) size but fine. The room was quite, but I could hear the "ring" of the elevator door when it opened, which was surprising since the room was not right next to it.

The staff were very friendly, polite & helpful. Service was very good. Walking distance across bridge into Austin and right on the jogging trail around the river. The construction doesn't look too good when you arrive, but what can you do about it?

Room Tip: 737 was a nice corner king bed room

The room wasn't available until 3:30pm and the desk clerk was not very friendly. The room on 14th floor was quiet and clean. We went to a reception and food was nice and the breakfast reception was very nice and well staffed. Cost of self parking was $17 and not even covered (a bit much). Hotel staff (other than reception) were attentive, helpful and friendly. A pretty location.

Room Tip: Stay on upper floors

Stayed here for 5 nights on business. Good location on the water and close to the main walking trail. Hotel restaurants are wonderful. Short walk to Congress Bridge and over to downtown Austin. I tend to like privacy when I travel and leave my privacy sign on about half my time there. My room ended up being cleaned one day when I had my privacy light on. When I don't plan on someone being in my room, I leave more personal items out....so I wasn't happy with that. Elevators were loud and they were pretty far away from me. But, all in all, a pretty good hotel.

Stayed overnight over Labor Day Weekend. Hotel itself was clean and comfortable, nothing fancy, but is noticeably dated. Could definitely use some updating.

Hotel interior is similar to the Luxor in Las Vegas, in that all the guest rooms are situated on the outer walls, and you can see down to the Hotel Lobby from every floor. Downside to this type of design is that you can hear the noise from the hotel lobby echo throughout the hotel. This can get especially annoying when there are tons of screaming children down at the lobby running around.

Sound insulation between rooms was extremely poor as well. I can clearly hear the family in the adjacent room, and they were not being particularly loud.

I was not able to try any of the restaurants or food in the hotel. Pool was small and right next to the river. The river was kind of smelly (not sure if it was just that weekend or if it's always like that), and you can smell it from the pool.

I liked that the hotel is just across the bridge from the heart of downtown Austin - so it's walking distance to 6th Street, but it's not right in the center of the madness at night.

Pros:
-Location is great, right in downtown Austin. But it's a 20 minute walk to 6th street.

-Good Sushi bar.

-Room was clean.

-River walking path right next to the hotel.

Cons:

-Totally overpriced. I paid over $350 per night so I assumed that this was a nice hotel.

-The hotel is extremely dated and needs major updating. My sink was cracked in 3 places, the furniture was scratched and the varnish was wearing off, the carpet was very old and worn, shower fixtures were old, drop ceilings in the bathroom that were stained. I could go on, so many things were old.

-The breakfast at the restaurant was terrible, cold, etc. luckily it was free.

-Valet took 15 minutes to find my car when we were checking out.

Overall a crazy overpriced dated Motel. You'd be better off staying at a holiday inn express, at least it would be new.

We stayed here on business for four nights and could not believe how amazing the entire hotel staff treated us along with all other customers! After staying in hotels over 250 + nights out of the year, it is hard to encounter a hotel that is all around on top of their service and gives 5 star quality performance. As with many businesses, a lot of the time it stems from the general manager and works it's way down. You can tell this is clearly the case at this hotel. Everyone, and I mean everyone from the front desk to valet, ranging from the coffee shop attendee to the bar & restaurant staff are all Amazing! As for the amenities, the rooms were clean and modern, the fitness room was very updated and upscale, the restaurants offer healthy local dishes (they even have sushi) and have a good happy hour, especially considering it's a hotel. The location is great and located in walking distance of Congress Ave. and downtown area. You can even walk to see the bats under the bridge at dusk (which you must if you haven't) Overall,we really enjoyed our stay and definitely will be back again!

A special thanks to everyone, but especially Erik front desk, Kelli at the MARKER 10 Restaurant, Leo Hotel Manager and Bryan Marquis,Valet.
