“NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

As soon as we entered the Churrascaria we found an odd configuration: in the center of the restaurant in lieu of the "Fogo" full of meats, we found the "Salad Bar"! Even when we tried to seat in the first line of many lines of tables (too many for the Gauchos to walk around), the meat arrived to a temperature far from the hot we expected and like. We understand that the salad bar is part of the business (less expensive than the meat) but to put it in the center is too much!
The only thing that saved the night were the friendly and cheerful Gauchos (some brazilian, some mexican and salvadorian among them). Then, good service but regular (or even bad) food for a all-you-can-eat meat restaurant. And, VERY EXPENSIVE for what you get.

“If you can't get to Southern Brazil, the best of its culinary traditions are at Estancia”
Reviewed January 6, 2013

As this is a traditional churrascaria, the meat is, of course, fantastic and cooked to order, as the skewers are loaded up with pieces cooked to various levels "doneness". I like mine medium and every bit I asked arrived at my plate just that way. But, while the meat may be the main attraction for most, it is just one of many high points. The "salad bar" would be better characterized as an endless buffet onto itself. In fact, you have to be pretty choosy in what you select if you want room for the meat. You can, in fact, choose to pay a lesser price and eat only from the salad bar--and trust me, a vegetarian would never go home disappointed. The wine list is also extensive and the dessert menu is generous (if you manage to save any room). My friend and I split one, just because. The service is spectacular. This is fine dining, after all, but since this is also Austin, TX, there is no dress code and the vibe is as relaxed as you will find in the fine dining world.
Many might be familiar with the national chain, Fogo de Chao, and Austin does have a location, but if you have to choose...know that Estancia is slightly less expensive, its salad bar is more extensive, and it is favored by my many Brazilian friends here in Austin, so if you are willing to leave downtown, you will be rewarded!

“Savory Beef”
Reviewed December 11, 2012

If you like to eat beef, this locally owned restaurant is a good value and a great meal. Recommend you not eat the prior meal to eating here. Typical Brazilian steak house with a great salad bar. Be adventurous and try all the cuts of meat. You will be surprised!

“Hwy 290 West no longer in business”

Nice Brazilian style food if you're into eating a lot of food. All you care to eat is probably not a great choice for the health conscious. Yes, delicious, dieters beware!

“Better on a weekday”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

I've been here twice, both times with reservations, once with just my wife, and a second time with a daughter and her husband. Both times, the food and the service were top-notch, and the wine selections were nice (not much of a oneophile; we liked what we had). Rather expensive in total, so I'd say they were priced accurately for what you get. The meat was great, and the salad bar is one of the best I've seen.

Our first visit on a weekday was flawless, and the reason we came again.

The one off-note was the second time we came, with reservations for our party of four on a Saturday, to find that the only tables available were by the kitchen, or right next to the salad bar traffic. I still rate the restaurant as excellent, but next time we'll either wait for a quieter table or try again another day.
