Owner description: The Backyard is located in the heart of the Texas Hill Country in a natural, open-air setting enveloped in the shade of 400 year old live oaks. This one of a kind amphitheater hosts music of a varied and eclectic mix of musicians.

First time attending concert at facility. Went to facility website to get a feel on how to prepare for event. Website indicated facility was newly renovated. Only thing accurate about description of Backyard environment is that is located in the hill country, that's it. I must admit parking was appropriate, how can you go wrong there. Once inside, we were disappointed. We purchase reserve seats, which were aluminum card chairs. That was placed on top of limestone rocks which made chairs sit uneven. Seated in a reserve area, you would think a person could were a decent pair of shoes, don't do it. The appropriate attire for enviroment would be work shoes or cowboy boots. You're basically navigating through rocks and dust all day. Although the reserve section was bad seating, I'm glad we did not seat on lawn. The lawn area was a mixture of terribly cared for grass, composed primarily of large limestone rocks. Try sitting on that all day and half the night. There were four concession stand there, all were closed. The one area to purchase food, and I mean one was a local restaurant. They carted in their trailer and sold over priced food. Your choice from their menu was only two selections. Been to concerts throughout US, I'm sorry to say this one is bad. Based on the location this property's located you would expect more. The upside to the experience was the musicians who performed. Overall, the venue need considerable improvements. I'm sure the possums can't wait till lights go out. Austin, you guy's got to do better.

Came to The Backyard for the Austin 1st Jazz Festival and had a blast!!
The bad thing was the old and broken folding chairs they currently have. At least for the price I paid for VIP tickets, we should've gotten chairs in better condition.
Next time will pay much less and bring a blanket to enjoy the grass and not leave with back pain!

It was spread out with rough terrain and multiple venue options. I don't see this place as becoming a place for future events until improvements are made.

My wife wanted to see Willie Nelson who was playing at The Backyard in Austin. Knowing that the traffic would be heavy, we rented a room at the nearby Hampton Inn. It took us 1 1/2 hours to drive from the hotel to the parking lot at The Backyard. There are eight lanes of traffic that must converge into two lanes to enter the parking lot. When we finally got in, we were told that the lot was full and that "it was every man for himself". We did find a place by the "Press Desk". Premium seating was a folding chair inside a roped off area. They ran out of food; the only choice was some kind of oriental chicken (which was surprisingly good) after a 1/2 hour wait. Drinks would have required another 1/2 hour wait in a different line. We decided to leave before the show was over to avoid a similar fiasco. Interestingly, the concert was being broadcast on Sirius so we listened to the last 15 minutes on the radio! Suggest you avoid The Backyard unless you are young and masochistic.

Very cool venue for a outdoor concert. The place is located southwest of downtown Austin approximately 22 miles depending which route you take. The place is celebrating 20 years this July and truly is a unique place for great music. I saw String Cheese Incident there over the 4th of July weekend and the sound is amazing. They have a great stage that one can see very easy from any location, except the back. Parking is easy and access is very easy in and out, but somewhat slow depending on the number of cars. However, you are out in the fresh air and in a scenic setting. Enjoy if you have the chance to attend a concert here.
