“Great location and breakfast included”
Reviewed November 23, 2011

Stayed for 3 nights in October. Fantastic location, just below all the action on 6th street. Got a great rate ($99) including breakfast. Room is up to date, includes the usual Residence Inn amenities (fridge and range), comfy bed, etc. We had a few service issues (people not following up on requests, having to ask many times, ) but overall very good experience. Hotel looked new. The adjacent Courtyard has nice bar to boot.

The location was easy to find and the hotel is in a commercial area between 6th street entertainment and the convention center and a 5 minute walk to all the action in the warehouse district as well. You have the choice of valet or self-parking. Self-parking is in a connected garage with easy elevator access. ($21 self with in and out) There is a nicely decorated inviting lobby with front desk and nicely appointed common area. Across the elevator bank is the Courtyard by Marriott which shares a common building.

There is free Wi-Fi available in the lobby area and rooms. The hotel has a large, nicely appointed gym. There is small indoor pool, but unfortunately no significant outside deck space. They have an acceptable business center with two computers near the front desk. Check in was quick and efficient, and they accommodated our request for a quiet room (away from the 6th street noise) and put us in a room facing 4th street on a high floor.

Though we were there for the nightlife of Austin, it was nice to be away from the hectic side of "dirty 6th" and we were really appreciative of the hotels strong stance on no noise. They have prominent signs stating no parties are allowed, and that only registered guests are allowed at the hotel. When we came back to the hotel Friday evening, they had security at the door to ensure that only guests were allowed in. This is a nice touch. There was some kind of ruckus in the room across from us with someone apparently smoking pot. Police were called and things quieted down. I don’t know the outcome. (They kept telling the security staff "dude I have a medical marijuana license" ---> that does not work in Texas, and why the heck would they stay at a non smoking hotel! Goofballs.)

The rooms are nicely decorated, but seem smaller than the rooms at the adjoining Courtyard, most likely because of the full kitchen. The rooms still seem new, and we understand they are getting ready to remodel. The beds are comfortable and they have nice HD TV's and plenty of channels. The climate control works well and the blower motor stays on for white noise while the climate control is still functioning. We had no noise from adjoining rooms (other than the ruckus with security) nor outside city noise. Bathrooms are well equipped with plenty of storage space. There is a tub with shower We could hear doors slamming in the morning from time to time.

The Residence Inn includes a very nice full breakfast buffet in the restaurant at Courtyard by Marriott. (It is not included at the Courtyard, but was reasonable if you needed to purchase it and the food was good) The area has every type of dining and entertainment option you could ask for all within easy walking distance. We did not partake of any of the hotels dining venues other than the free breakfast.....too many good choices nearby to eat in a hotel.

We would absolutely recommend this location and would stay here again if we wanted to stay in the area for a personal trip. Room rate seemed appropriate for the area, especially with the AAA discount. (We checked the rates, though we were on a reward stay....since it was the same number of points as the Courtyard and had free breakfast, we stayed at the Residence Inn) Having also stayed at the nearby Hilton and Intercontinental hotels in the past, I would feel comfortable choosing any of these hotels based on who has the best price at the time. All of these are very nice options and similar in their offerings and the prices seem to vary wildly from day to day.

They were agreeable to late check-out when we asked which was nice. The entire hotel is non-smoking which is always a plus.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing 4th St for a quiet room.

Stayed here 3 nights for business. Rooms have queen bed, work desk, large flat screen TV, sofa and complete kitchen. It's located just two blocks from Austin's famous 6th Street, home to many restaurants and bars. Hotel shares property with a Courtyard by Marriott, an interesting arrangement. The hotel is sparkling clean, has superb customer service, offers an indoor pool, spa & exercise room. There is also a guest laundromat, if needed. Wi-fi or wired internet is free and the hotel has a business cubby with computers and printers available, also free. For one or two people, this is an exceptional place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from 4th Street

I stayed at this hotel as part of a convention. I was there 2 nights, and left the do not disturb on instead of having it cleaned. The room was very clean. It is more apartment type setting, than typical hotel room. Very spacious. Kitchen area with full size refrigerator, desk, couch, tv that can be viewed by couch or bed. Well lit. Large vanity sink area and the toilet/shower room is not cramped. Elevators were quick, and the only hallway noise was the occasional door slam. Very safe, and good location near convention center and restaurants.

I realized that the 1 bed and 1 sofa sleeping accomidations would not work for the 4 of us. I called and a very nice person said she would change us to the courtyard with 2 beds for the same price. She took my email and said she would send me a confirmation. I did not recieve one so a few days later I called. Not only had she not changed the reservation, she cancelled the existing one!!! The person I talked to gave me back my original reservation but said there we no 2 bed rooms available on the courtyard side. So after all that effort, I am back to a room that doesn't really work.

It is a good thing I called, or I would have no room!

Our appologies for the mix up with the reservation. That is truly not the way we conduct our business on a daily basis. We always want to make our guests feel as comfortable as possible when staying in the hotel. We will be sure to reevaluate the process in changing your reservation so we may prevent this from happening in the future. Thank you for taking time to share with us our mistake as a company so we can improve as a team.

Excellent location for 6th Street and downtown Austin. Rooms were very clean and well equipped, however they are quite compact - four of us in a two bedroom suite was a bit of squeeze.

Really friendly staff and we had a very quick check-in.

Stayed on a Friday night and was awoken by alot of street noise in the middle of the night but that wouldn't put me off staying again here as the location is so good. We had no issues with noise inside the hotel.

Lots of business travel--constant in fact--but Austin's Courtyard or Residence Inn is tops. It starts with a GREAT front desk staff--always cheerful and pleasant--smiles all around and lots of personality. What's not to be cheerful and pleasant about anyway--hell, it's Austin!! The rooms are like most others--but refreshingly clean and crisp. The location is great--it's close to almost anything and Eddie V's is a few steps away. But the rest of downtown is close enough for a quick walk or a jog. My first choice staying downtown is the Residence (I stay on the Courtyard side) because the staff is friendly and makes you feel like "you're home again".

Room Tip: Rooms toward the front of the property are south-west facing. The rooms in the "back" ove...
