Holiday Inn Austin-Town Lake
Ranked #108 of 202 Hotels in Austin
Reviewed February 10, 2014

The hotel view is nice if you are on the lake side of the hotel. The rooms are nice and house keeping was excellent. The elevators need to be updated. The shuttle service was excellent and the driver was very nice. Overall, I think it was an enjoyable stay.

Thanks for the kind review. We appreciate your business and are elated that you enjoyed your stay
.
Yes the elevators are in need of interior updating. Unfortunately, some of our guests feel the need to leave evidence of their stay behind and once the stainless is scratched, it’s difficult to repair. It is part of our overall rehab plan for 2014.

Come back and see us again soon.

I stayed here on Saturday January 25th with my fiancé and 2 other friends. The front lobby looked nice, there weren't many people there especially since we got there at 8pm. The front desk gentleman was nice, he was respectful and made me feel welcomed. The room we stayed in was nice, although the doorway was very narrow and the restroom was small but overall ok. We did find a toy on the floor next to the window and bed which tells me they didn't quite clean as well. I also did want to point out how dangerous I felt with the elevator doors. Before checkout, we went to get a luggage carrier thing (not sure what those things are called) and tried to catch the elevator and the doors would slam shut once people got off. My fiancé put her foot through and the doors didn't stop! Her foot was stuck in between the doors! She was able to wiggle her foot out and didn't get hurt but it's still very concerning. Other than that, it was an average stay, we only slept for a few hours so it was satisfying for the amount I paid.

Thanks for taking a few moments to comment on your stay. We appreciate the input.

The problem with the elevator was reported and our vendor has corrected the adjustment issue. These elevators are used heavily and our contracted maintenance crews are here almost daily to assure smooth operation.

Thanks too for your kind comments on our staff. They are indeed our most valuable asset and appreciate your recognition.

This is my second stay at this hotel. I spent a long weekend visiting my son. The hotel is in a fantastic location. Lady Bird Lake is right outside the door for a nice stroll or jog. Rainey Street is within walking distance. There are usually cabs waiting outside the hotel in the evening. There's a shuttle service too, but I didn't use it. The rooms are clean, odorless, and very comfortable. Good water pressure in the shower. The hotel has free parking and internet. A huge bonus for any downtown hotel! There's a nice enough bar and restaurant. I didn't use either with most of Austin at my doorstep. I love the heated rooftop pool. What a great view! The workout area was pretty messy the night I used it, but that's the fault of sloppy guests more than staff. I booked through a discount website. I wish these hotels would make their prices closer to those sites. I would rather book directly for the same price. I certainly will make this my top choice for my next visit!

Thank you for your comments. Concise and complimentary. Gene is relatively new but has definitely made his mark by providing exemplary hospitality to our guests from his position as a driver. It’s usually the best time to answer questions or make recommendations and Gene knows the city well.

Come back and see us the next time Austin is in your travel plans.

So im here on business. Meet downstairs at the hotel bar....greaaaatttt staff what awesome service with personality..bartenders especially. Front desk staff was of great help in telling us where to go to have fun. Rooms very clean new looking (recently renovated?) Hotel is right down the street from rainy street. Never been to austin before. After going to sixth street via the river walk way I would recommend rainy st. What a weird yet neat area. I won't say more but great micro brews...great restaurants and unique atmosphere. Im glad the hotel staff pointed us in the right direction...no cabs needed. Less than ten minute walk from hotel means you can let loose and have fun..oh hotel bar food was great too.

Thanks for the great review on our hotel and staff. It is greatly appreciated.

Rainey Street has really become a hot spot in Austin and there’s no closer hotel than ours. It’s a lot more laid back than 6th Street and yes, it’s a very short walk from our elevators. I clocked it at two tenths of a mile.

Come back and enjoy.

No, this hotel isn't right in the thick of the action. And yes, the building could use a significant refurbishment. But for the price and the convenience of its location, I'm going to book here again.

First, the property itself. There are two towers that are showing obvious wear and age. The elevators groan and moan. And the lobby lacks some charm. Much of the rest of the public spaces on the first floor go unused. You get the suggestion this place used to be far busier in a past life. The gift shop right off the reception area never seemed to be open longer than an hour at a time.

The rooms, however, looked newly refurnished -- you could tell from the smell or new carpet. Beds were comfortable. Bathrooms still looked a little old. No complaints about the room itself, though on one day housekeeping forgot to turn the room.

There's free parking onsite (in a pretty empty garage). It's easy to get in and out, and is conveniently located right near a major thoroughfare.

There's a free shuttle that can take you downtown and to other parts of town.

Best part is the proximity to Rainey St. Having never been to Austin before, I discovered this awesome strip of bars/clubs/eats on the second night. What a convenience to be able to walk to this at night!

In short: This hotel is a great value. You're close enough to downtown that you don't feel like you're disconnected or too far. And it's easy to get to all the spots you'd want to. To boot, the location itself is pretty nice in and of itself.

Service was, on the whole, great. Front desk was super helpful. Will definitely return.

We’re glad you’re coming back.

I can understand your comment about us being busier in the past but I can assure you, we’re busier that ever and have just completed our best year yet. This time of year is indeed very slow though. Like all hotels and destinations, we have peaks and valleys. Right about now, it’s valley time.

Thanks for the detailed review and your compliments about our staff and range of amenities. Hospitality is our business and we do our best every day to provide it to every guest.

On the plus side the Holiday Inn is conveniently situated on the edge of Lady Bird Johnson Lake (Town Lake) and is fairly close to 6th Street downtown and right off the freeway. The hotel features two towers. The newer tower, situated over a five-story parking garage, affords nice views of the Lake and Travis Heights (south Austin) or overlooks interstate highway 35, so be sure to ask for a lake view room. The rooms are on the small side, but comfortable. We have stayed here many times because of the good prices and convenient location. Not much has been done over the past six years to update the rooms or to enhance the appeal of the Holiday Inn. The hotel used to give Holiday Club members a welcome gift with bottled water and snacks. No more, sad to say. Room features include free wi - fi, microwaves and small fridges in the clothes chest. I can understand why this hotel ranked 85th by TripAdvisor reviewers.

Thanks you for taking the time to offer a detailed review and thanks too for staying with us. Our repeat guests and IHG Rewards guest are very important to us.

Yes, we used to give our IHG Rewards members water and chocolate but the brand standard has changed and we’re required to offer a Holiday Inn standard welcome amenity based on Platinum/Gold/Standard member status. I believe the brand wanted to standardize this program so guest expectations are the same at all properties.

Thanks again for the kind review and come back and see us again soon.
