“Wow, The Driskill”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

We stayed on Sunday night and Monday night so as to get a deal on our room. It was worth it. We asked for the historic side of the building and were glad we did. The halls have a few historic artifacts on the walls, plus the decor was beautiful. The staff was incredibly helpful. Their is a very good bar on the 2nd floor, and a fantastic cafe/bakery near the south entrance. The entire staff goes out of their way to make your stay pleasant and memorable. We used valet parking and didn't regret it.

Great location to hear fantastic local music without all the drama of 6th Street. Beautiful hotel and great music, you can't go wrong.

What a great hotel. The decor was stunning, the rooms were great. Egyptian cotton sheets made for a great nights sleep!

“Beautiful building; less than so-so food”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

The Driskell was a beautiful building both inside and out. We stepped inside after a tour of Austin to get a bite for lunch. I don't know what we would have done if we had wanted more to eat. It took 40 minutes to be serve a French dip sandwich and some nachos. The French dip was plentiful and good, but the nachos were flavorless, something you don't expect in an area known for its Tex-Mex. There were only 2 other couples in the cafe at the time, and one had already been served so I can't imagine why the lengthly wait. Don't eat here unless you have plenty of time to dawdle. Food was a bit pricey.

“Quinoa Pilaf and Salmon Dinners”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

We had dinner at the 1886 Cafe and Bakery. The Quinoa Pilaf was fabulous. My husband enjoyed his salmon. Both dishes were nicely presented. Service was excellent.
