Tres Amigos has been around awhile. It feels like visiting a Mexican hacienda. A small bar at the entrance provides a waiting area or a destination. The food is surprisingly delicious and attractively served. Even traditional dishes are given a special treatment with both service and presentation. Locals eat here and a birthday or graduation party is not unusual in the private section in the back. A glass lined wall in the main dining area looks out on a garden area with a fountain. A short distance out of town it is a relaxing respite with plenty of parking. Good food!

When people give certain places bad food reviews, I'm never sure if they just went when they were having a bad day or simply ate the napkins and condiments. I have eaten Mexican food all around the country and at the Tres Amigos all around Austin and this place is consistently fantastic. Fresh ingredients, great queso, good variety of meals, excellent service, and you must try the margaritas -- but don't have more than two without a designated driver. If you like Tex-Mex, you're love Tres Amigos.

Maybe the best queso and tortillas in Austin. When you go, be sure to ask to sit in Grandma's section, she is an amazing person. All of the entrees are pretty average, but I like the chicken enchiladas with the chipotle, ranchero, or poblano sauce. For dessert the Mexican Spice Cake is fantastic, and the Dulce de Leche Ice Cream is awesome. Also, the food is practiaclly free it is so cheap.

Garbage in, garbage out. And somehow watching deer eat tortillas doesn't make it any better.
