We eat there regularly. It is a favorite among locals. The Ensalada del Mar with tilapia, avocado and light jalapeño sauce is yummy. Our favorite is the tender beef Enchiladas del Rio.

You get a lot of food for the price, but the flavors are bland. Good thing they have a station for extra sauces and fixins. If you are on a time limit and budget then this is the place.

I've been dining at Mesa Rosa on Anderson Lane for more than 20 years. Lately, I've noticed that the quality of the food and the service has slipped quite a bit. Tonight, my wife and I went to the restaurant for an early dinner. The rush had not yet started, but we had to wait quite a while for service. There were four waiters standing around visiting among themselves. When chips and salsa were finally brought to the table (we had to wait longer for our two glasses of ice water to arrive), the chips looked like someone had placed them in a bag and beat them with a hammer. The salsa is still above average, so it was too bad our chips were smashed into quarter inch fragments. Our dinner arrived promptly after we ordered. However, the food quality was disappointing. The taco meat and the chili gravy had no flavor. The cheese enchiladas were soggy lumps of tortilla filled with a cheese the texture and taste of Velveeta. Years ago, the refried beans were homemade. The beans tonight were from a can, and if not, they tasted as if they were. The Spanish rice is still among the best in Austin. I really don't like writing this negative review because I know most of the waiters, hostesses and cooks at the restaurant. But, if Mesa Rosa is going to compete and survive in a city that is overrun with good quality, authentic Mexican restaurants, they have to reverse their downward spiral.

The Original location is the best, the others are improving.
The mixed Fajitas for two are good, and try the Charro Beans.
For lunch, Rosa Enchilada Plate is good.

It is too much $ now for Mexican food. For instantance, the last time my wife were there recently, it cost over $32.00 with tip, and we drank iced tea.
