Nice people, great bbq, great prices. No, it's not as good as Franklin's or some of the places in Lockhart. However, I'd happily trade that for the convenience of its hours and not having to wait! Plus their food is great and they'll let you sample some of the options if you're not sure on what to get. I'm not a corn person, but make sure you try their creamed corn- it's fantastic!

Rudy's is a place for some darn good brisket, I have tried the sausages or pork and the brisket is by far the best here. Not fancy, which is fine as long as the food it good. Only one sauce here...Rudy's sauce....has a bit of a twang and not too much of a smokey flavor but that's what makes it Rudys. Been two two locations in Austin and one in San Antonio and the food is very consistent at each location.
do yourself a favor....do not leave Austin with our try some "Rudy's"

I am not a food snob in any way. I have eclectic tastes and environment means much less than food quality. The people working here are warm, friendly, and incredibly inviting. They asked if we had been their before and when we said no...they all sang a welcome to Rudy's song. The counter clerk then offered to provide samples of anything they had which was not on a bone. We sampled a couple of styles of brisket, turkey, and even creamed corn. Eventually we settled on the medium fat brisket and baby back ribs, For sides we had beans, creamed corn, cole slaw, and potato salad. It may seem like a lot of sides, but they were in very small containers...and at $2 a pop not worth the price. Every side dish tasted as if it came out of a package. Little taste or flavor to make you want them again. The brisket was pretty good...but I've had better many times. The baby back ribs were heavily salted and quite fatty.

They have only picnic style long bench seating...so if they are busy and the two of you want privacy...forget it. They also serve each meat item on a piece of waxed paper and sharing means scraping stuff off of one piece of paper to another. sharing sides requires eating out of the same container.

Over all the friendly service was not enough to overcome the other issues...especially when you have so many other really good choices for BBQ. Frankly I liked PoKeJo's much better.

Rudy's has delicious BBQ - my favorite is their smoked turkey. You should definitely visit & grab some butcher paper and napkins while you're at it :)
