“The real deal...no Tex-Mex nonsense.”
Reviewed October 20, 2013

In town for business at a hotel near Sixth Street...locals advised this place for authentic interior Mexican, not the tex-mex garbage.

The avocado margarita was something to behold...it sounds gross but was very good. The chonchinita di pibil was the best I ever had. But unless you have access to a car, its location ain't great for the average tourist or business traveller.

“Solid Mexican - not TexMex”
Reviewed September 22, 2013

So many places around Austin serve TexMex. This place has some TexMex but a number of more authentic Interior specialties. Even the TexMex has unique twists that raise the bar. There are also some vegetarian and vegan choices - which is often not the case in Mexican restaurants. Don't be put off by the lack of parking, they seem to squeeze everyone inside without much waiting.

“One of our favorite Austin restaurants”
Reviewed September 10, 2013

Typical South Austin restaurant, sort of Caribbean Mexican style food, with excellent ceviche, carnitas, enchiladas, giant home made tamales, and avocado margaritas. This is where we bring all of our guests when they come to visit. Laid back, a bit noisy and a very popular place to eat breakfast, lunch or dinner.

“An avocado...”
Reviewed September 8, 2013 via mobile

What sent me here was the story of a fabled Avocado Margarita. I'd been told I must have one before leaving Austin. Decided to be adventurous. Not only was the drink amazingly good, the Kelly Queso, Molletes, burritos were excellent. My advice, go hungry! Portions are generous. If I return to Austin, I will make sure I visit again. There is also outdoor seating, easy to find location.

“As good as we remembered.”
Reviewed September 7, 2013 via mobile

We used to frequent this little place way back when it first opened (back in the 90's). Almost every Sunday we would go in for the delicious breakfast tacos, especially the machacado, egg, and cheese. We also enjoyed sitting outside and sipping margaritas and undulging in chips and Curra's excellent hot sauce. Since it was just around the corner from our house, we soon became regulars. But, It didn't take long for word to get out, and within a few years, there was up to a 45 minute wait for a table. And not long after that we relocated and our regular trips to Curra's were a thing of the past. We were in Austin recently, and on a weekday we walked in, sat right down (like we used to) and totally enjoyed the mouth-watering joy of those machacado breakfast tacos. It was well worth the wait (between visits). Thanks, Curra's, for maintaining an Austin tradition.
