As of 4/24/12 there were 192 reviews of Uchi - 2.2% gave this place a failing mark (1 or 2 stars) and over 95% gave it 4 or 5 stars. The people choosing to trash the place claim they "know sushi" but I think the raw numbers prove otherwise. What's with their agenda? Putting down a James Beard award winning restaurant that has been packed since the day they opened 8 years ago, while opening successful sister establishments smells of jealousy at the least and more likely no knowledge of what constitutes good food. Uchi rocks night after night, if you choose not to go it makes the line shorter for me : )

We brought a group of 8 for dinner, ended up waiting about an hour for a table- no big deal. they have a nice space outside to sit, chat, nibble on some snack, and enjoy some drinks.

the food was amazing. small plates- hot and cold. very fresh sushi. extremely imaginative food.

cheap? not at all- but well worth every penny. go there for a special occasion!

Atmosphere ok;doesn't feel authenically Japanese. The sushi was good, but not spectacular. What was spectacular was the special tasting menu-it is expensive but the creativity was outstanding. Some really unique and interesting dishes that would be worth a trip back. One of the standouts was the thai-basil sorbet-it should be on the menu by itself (the chocolate with it was a little overpowering for the wonderful taste of the sorbet). The chef uses fruit, smoke, fish, and herbs in remarkable ways-give it a try!

I'd rate this 10 out of 5 if I could. It was that good! We let them pick our dishes, our 2 favorite dishes were the eskabar and foie gras.

Expensive but worth every dollar if you enjoy good sushi. Very light though so expect to spend a lot if you want to fill up. Go as a start to a night and appetizer hop your way through town if you want to experience more places and save some money.
