Went to Threadgills looking for the home cooking we were used to getting here. It had been awhile and were looking forward to that "World Famous Chicken Fried Steak". Unfortunately the chicken fried steak and the vegetable side dishes were bland and unseasoned. So sad.

Visiting Austin on a business trip, I was disappointed at how few southern/BBQ restaurants there were near the hotel district. If you want ample portions of good (but not exceptional) southern comfort food, located near the hotels, at a reasonable price, this is the place for you.

We ate at Threadgills twice during our short trip to Austin. Partially because of Austin traffic, and it's proximety to our lodging. We had pecan encrusted chicken, turkey and dressing, beer braised pot roast, and chicken fried steak. Everything we had was very good, and the atmosphere is great. When do you get to eat in an old diner?

We we're recommended this place by a local we met, it's big and exactly how I imagine a typical American diner. Service was really good and the reason we went was to try their famous chicken fried steak which was very nice but being the first and only time I've had it I can't say how it compares.
It was quiet during our visit on a Tuesday around 2000/2100 which meant there was a lack of atmosphere which I think you'd get at a weekend. Nonetheless a good friendly honest place to eat

We took some out of state visitors to this restaurant for some chicken fried steak. Threadgill's never messes up. They are consistently good. Our waitress even brought out some collard greens for our guests to try and it was really good. Nice and friendly staff and good food.
