Description: Shady Grove is located in the heart of 78704 in Austin, TX. Nestled under the shade of a tall pecan grove, we have been serving up Austin-inspired home cooking, cocktails, sunshine and smiles since 1992. In the months of April through September, Shady Grove hosts KGSR's Unplugged at The Grove, one of Austin's longest running free live music series, every Thursday night at 8pm.

Everytime I come here I have a lovely experience. The patio is very chill, especially in the late afternoon with a nice breeze. Drink selection is decent, but it is their Hippie Sandwich that always brings me back. Piled high with grilled veggies on a fantastic cut of bread, this sandwich is just awesome. You can get it with chicken if you like. Located right outside of Zilker Park, this is a great spot to unwind after a day of kayaking and swimming.

In all honesty, we ended up at Shady Grove by mistake – proof that sometimes fate smiles on you. We were headed for a restaurant down the street but missed their driveway and ended up here. One look at the packed parking lot and smiling faces on the patio, and we decided to park the car and head for the shade.

The menu is enough to instigate a comfort foodie melt down! Truck Stop Meatloaf with Airstream Chili. Green Chili Grilled Chicken. Chipotle BBQ Baby Back Ribs. Green Chili Cheeseburger and, my favorite, Green Chili Cheese Fries. Yes, that’s a lot of chili type stuff but nothing was really hot, just very tasty. There are other, non-chili-fied options, including a couple of vegetarian dishes. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and as attentive as they could be given how busy it was when we visited. Overall, the service was good and the food was fantastic.

What really set Shady Grove apart for me, though, is the atmosphere. It’s right off of busy Barton Springs Road but the décor, buildings and huge pecan trees almost transport you out to the country. It feels comfortable, unhurried, fun and relaxed. Combined with such tasty food (and large portions), Shady Grove became an instant favorite for our family.

Good food. Good atmosphere. Loved the outside patio. Service was average. Enjoyed the drink special but was a bit overpriced for what it's size.

The staff at Shady Grove are fantastic.
The Bloody Mary's are nice and spicy! The quest and hatch chili fries are worth the visit to the gym but the Chicken Fried Steak was tasteless with THICK gravy. Will I give it another chance - sure.

An Austin icon, but for the environment not the food. There's nothing bad about the food here, just nothing spectacular. They do have a great summer concert series for free that is totally worth going to!!

The atmosphere at shady grove is casual and relaxed. For the concert series there are actually lawn chairs for you to sit in, which is nice. The shows are outside. There's also an outdoor bar so you don't have to go inside for a drink, and a waitress that occasionally walks by to take your oder at your lawn chair.

I still go here even though I don't love the food just for the atmosphere/live music.
